Around here it's just the opposite. You'll hear, "Why do you only want one? What are you gonna do with just one?"
Good luck, save your pennies and hopefully we'll see you on the road someday!
Cool, now anyone have weights for the 5 ton. Don't know why that thread didn't come up before. All I was getting was the weights of complete trucks... No matter how much I learn I find I still have a long way to go. My only hope is I don't stop learning until I'm in the ground!
Can someone fill in the blanks for me. I need the weights of 2.5 ton Rockwell s vs. 5 ton Rockwells. Looking for shipping weights basically, including drum brakes and front steering components. Trying to get a no BS measurement. I asked around but no one seems to know exactly what they weigh. I...
That's what I've been saying for years! I can't tell you how many times I'd be going over rough parking areas, off camber docks, steep approach and departure angled lots, etc. For my own use I wouldn't have anything other than a two axis hitch. We used my buddy's one ton to move our 5th wheel...
Take my two cents coming from someone who hasn't yet got their first. Harder to maintain is not an issue. They were designed to be maintained by your typical fresh out of high schooler. Fuel is not a big deal either since you can burn old motor oil, old tranny fluid, etc. to offset the cost. If...
ATC- I thought about that. Modifying a setup of a Pete or something. Help with load, height and ride. If I ever do a repower in the future air ride will be on that list!
What do you guys think about using 5 ton axles instead of 2.5's? What needs to be changed as far as the driveshafts, u...
I hear ya' on that. After I lost my job i ended up selling everything I had. Now we're getting back on our feet so it's time to get the business rolling. That was a sweet truck you had though. Did you ever take a guess at what kind of mileage you were getting after the bigger tires and shaving...
That's the way it works though. Like adisease. First a deuce isn't big enough, then a five ton is a little too small then the 10 ton is just not quite enough! Love the disease!
YES!
For anyone wondering where my mind's eye was envisioning for this project. Put a flatbed on that truck, and there it is! Thank you for sharing that with me.
dburt- I like the way your mind works. If I had the money (or the parts laying around) the 6BT was the way I wanted to go. Last year I came narry a hair from putting a 4BT in a two door fullsize Blazer (but that's a whole other subject). I don't know much of anything about the double OD tranny...
Actually, that was a plan in the works. Work it for a couple years, when I upgrade or add new I wanted to convert it to my on farm only use with some extra tractor tires. Sick minded me though, I think the one in the pics looks just about right!
