I would love to do a Halftrack like the Argentinian one, but I think that's way out of my fab skills and budget. Off the shelf stuff is reasonably priced and I can make it work. I'm going to try and put together a pictorial photoshop of what I'm looking to do soon. Then it's going to be a lot of...
The problem with using a frame off of something like a caiman is that I would still need to add the bend in the frame where the rear axle for the sprocket mounts. Using track and suspension off of an excavator would be tough since those really only go a few miles an hour. At least the ww2...
I've thought about how the added power would affect the track and even the rear axle. I've submitted the question to the new track manufacturer in hopes of getting an answer on what the limits of the track will be. The Israelis put higher torque and horse power Diesel engines in theirs and ran...
I've taken into consideration the different axle ratios on the Halftrack. Stock front axle is a 6.8:1 ratio so I know I need to keep to that or within 1% to be able to use the front axle. What I've found is the m35a3 axle has a 6.72:1 ratio and if I put 12.5x20 tires on it at 40" tall that'll...
There will be plenty of pictures on this one and a lot of questions I'm sure. I'm looking forward to bringing the spirit of the Halftrack into modern warfare and hopefully have something that even the purists want to checkout at the rallies.
I'm posting this here, since I'm not interested in a lesson on what I should or shouldn't spend my money on or why I need to do what I want. Typical of the purists over on G503 it's always a question of "why" and "you should restore it for future generations". I get it, this build isn't what...
I'm not a scout car guy, like the halftracks more, so I don't think I could give you a fair assessment, but in that condition not worth a fortune. If I was you I would post it up over on g503 and see what those guys have to say. Definetly worth something to someone.
So I think that in the future I may want to do a gun truck project and I'm curious what truck everyone recommends to start with. Also, is anyone out there making repro. Armor for these or does anyone have the plans for the armor that I could get to have all the steel cut? What else should be...
The cab was built by Lockheed martin and originally fitted for the S&S. It has a type of DuPont Kevlar lining called mpact. It protects against shrapnel and light small arms fire. The cab itself without the missile guidance equipment is actually lighter than the regular cab on a standard truck...
I thought about buying the m1089 that's in the classifieds but it's so long that if I put a fifth wheel plate in it and hooked a trailer to it Id be afraid the turning radius would be too much. Any thoughts?
So here's my vision, I want to put my Himars cab on an m1088 with a knuckle boom crane behind the cab. Does anyone know if there will be room between the cab and end of an M172 trailer? I'm pretty sure the crane off an M1084 is more narrow than the one off the wrecker model, but it's max lift is...
