It's a hassle to have armor on "donation" from the military. It's actually easier to get something from a museum on a base because they have an exchange program that can release equipment in trade to a private individual. The museum has 2 m113's and they don't need 2 of them. I'd really love to...
Just spoke with the museum guy. They're a private 501c3 museum, but the equipment came from the donation program. So it would need to go through the crazy government regulations to be turned in or transferred to another museum.
Ok, so I've found some APC's and other vehicles that a museum has, but wants to sell. They said they can't sell to a private person without demilling. Has anyone encountered this before? Is there a way around this? I'd really hate to see these things get scrapped if myself and others could buy...
Keep me posted on what you find out. Did you get any contacts from him? I looked for an auction site for Portugal, but didn't find anything. It looks like the Portuguese aren't as big on the military vehicle collecting as some of the other European countries.
I emailed a guy in Portugal I found off of milweb.net that deals in jeeps and asked if he knew anything. He said that they are trying to sell all of the chaimites to an African nation. Sucks. I'd like to see collectors get a hold of them.
The Lmtv uses the m66 gun ring and the m939 trucks use the lightweight weapon station, which is a Hmmwv style turret on a platform mounted above the cab.
using the same rear axle and sprocket combination as the original is one of those things I can't see away to change. The track is of the continuous band type and the only way to change the sprocket diameter would be to move the rear axle forward or aft to compensate for its size change while...
The rear drive axle on the Halftrack is 4.44. This is because the rear sprocket diameter is smaller than the front wheel, which is an NDT 9.00x20 making the front tire 39 or 40 inches in diameter. Some places I've looked call it 39" and some 40". Anybody have the real diameter? The question is...
Ok so here's a question for someone with more experience than me. The original ratio set up on the Halftrack was 6.8 for the front axle and 4.44 for the rear. I want to run a modern axle on this vehicle and I'm leaning towards the deuce front axle. Firstly, do you guys think that's a stout...
The frag 5 doors I've found are complete except one is missing the window assembly. Could get it made from the dimensions from the other door, but not sure where to go for the glass. I do like the heavier doors with more room from the windows being outside rather than inside.
Thank you. It was my pleasure to serve my country. Made me the man I am today. Picture of the door only is a frag 5 and the doors on the Hmmwv are frag 3.
I'm a lead engineer for Sikorsky. I started life as a crew chief on the Blackhawks with the 101st airborne division and deployed to Iraq in 2005-2006. I worked my ass off and got myself to where in at today. I turn 32 next week so I'm pretty proud of myself. Waiting to see if the regulatory...
I'll post pictures this weekend. Ok, so I'm trying to figure out the best engine, tranny and transfer case combo. I'm looking at the 290hp cat 3116 and the 330hp cat c7. I don't want full time 4x4 so I don't want to use the transmission used on the Lmtv/FMTV because it's not a divorced transfer...
can anyone let me know if they find any frag 5 hmmwv front doors or electric hmmwv turret stuff? Figure these will be some of the harder to come by items for this build. Thanks
