Make sure hubs are locked, then check the transfer case shifting linkage, ane make sure it's actually locking the t-case into gear. Sometimes under bind/load, t-cases can pop out of gear. If you were getting movement at the rear axle, then the t-case is definitely in SOME gear. See if you can...
I'm a member of CK5 but am having administrative problems posting anything. I've emailed the admins to try to rectify it, still waiting on an answer. I know Kenny from here (and there, too) has some hydro pedals that I could use, just gotta get some $ put together.
I do browse there regularly!
It's actually a 20,000lb Tulsa PTO winch from a 5T, instead of a Deuce winch. Yes, I plan to reinforce the rear frame rails, and drop it in between (leaving clearance for hte rear diff). It'll be rear-facing, and powered from a PTO box on the transfer case. I have an SM465/NP205 to go in the...
There was a discussion on here a few weeks ago about how to strap down vehicles for transport, I believe.
Anyway, here's how we got the CUCV back to Central VA from Central PA. It was a 6 hour trip via interstate, and I didn't feel comfortable road tripping a vehicle I just bought and didn't...
OK My first attempt at a threa didn't work so well, but I've been squared away with regard to posting pictures so I'll try again. This is a copy of my thread over on AR15.com, so some of the info is basic to you guys, like where I describe what drivetrain is stock in a CUCV, etc. It's not...
OK thanks for the info. I'll copy/paste the text and upload the photos in the appropriate spots. If a mod could just trash this thread, I'll start a new one with the pics done correctly.
Thanks!
We used the tube lights on the ends of the M198 during non-tactical road travel (off base, etc). On base and in the field we used chem lights at night and nothing during the day.
Just wanted to say hello.
I've been lurking for a few years, but finally found a CUCV. I live in central VA, but I grew up in piedmont NC. I notice there's quite a few members nearby. Thought I'd say hello.
Background - 7 years in the VAARNG as a 13B. Driven plenty of wheeled .mil vehicles...
I'm joe nobody, new here and I really don't mean to step on any toes, but please please please toss some 4x4 timbers under the frame next time to support it.
There was a firefighter in suburban Richmond VA earlier this year who was killed when he was working on his truck on his day off. I don't...
OK I'm going to go back and try to edit my post to make it work.
How many posts do I need before my pictures will be click-free? Am I still under the newbie status where they'll just show a link instead of the attached picture?
Thanks for the help M.R., each board runs different code and...
Gents,
I posted a few weeks ago about the truck I found on Ebay. I thought I'd add the build up that I've done so far on it. Please keep in mind, I did not intend on a military restoration, but rather capitalizing on the durability and heavy duty parts in the .mil trucks to serve my needs...
Throw a canvas cover or an old 5 gallon bucket over the vice.
What can't be seen every day as a thief drives by, can't tempt him to sneak over one night and steal it.
ETA - There's a 5 ton wrecker for sale on Ebay right now, selling 'for parts or scrap', located in SC. Maybe someone here...
If you look in Craigslist for VA, I believe it shows up in the Lynchburg and Roanoke searches, there's a pair of CUCV axles for sale in Staunton. I don't remember the price though. (found the phone number 540-487-6262)
Since you've already got the truck, why not just find a non-bent axle...
Gents,
Need to get some specs on the fording exhaust pipe for a Humvee.
Specifically, what is the diameter of the exhaust tubing? Looks to be 3" give or take, but I need to know for sure.
Also, what is the vertical length of the pipe (not slanted when put on correctly, but if stood up...
Line-X is always cheaper if you do the prep work yourself (interior removal, etc). You can usually tell them which bolt holes to save and if you want any covered up you can do that too. When I did the Herculiner in my CJ7 tub, I just rolled up scraps of paper and shoved them down into the bolt...
We always called them Kuk-vee's, but I heard them regularly called Kut-vee's also.
Usually, in our unit, the M1009's were called CUCV's and the M1008's were called pickups. <shrug>
Gents,
Got a screaming deal on a 20K Tulsa winch from the front of an old gasser 5T (believe it's an M139 bridging truck).
I will be attempting to adapt this as a rear winch on my M1008. It'll be a rear facing winch which I plan to mount either straight to the framerails, or to a subframe...
RE: Re: RE: M1009 Key same as M1031?
My truck's ignition key is a standard oval-head GM door key, instead of the normal square-head ignition key that GM used for years. So I'd suggest that the door key is the correct one.
