Sort of true. That 12V tap comes from between the two batteries in series. If you use that method, it will consistently cause the "upper" battery to be over-charged
My 931A2 has the big filter setup, and I certainly appreciated its capacity when I did its first filter change in my possession this year. The amount of garbage that came out of that canister was disgusting. I doubt a spin-on type could have handled that much trash. Don't know where it came...
I'm curious to see how well the MT654 does behind that motor. Its "only" rated for 850lb-ft of input torque if memory serves.
edit: double-checked, and its 950ft-lb.
When I got my 931, the seperator was leaking. What I found was that there is a little umbrella seal in the bottom of the unit that was installed upside-down. If you unscrew the bowl, there's a piece of white plastic inside. On top it should have the seal with the lip facing toward you so the...
It looks like the type of switch used for the M35's intake flame heater. Perhaps some sort of cold-start assist?
edit: Based on the noise you hear, almost definitely the flame-heater switch.
With the large numbers of M931s and 932s coming through GL, is it possible that we'll start seeing some of the trailers they pulled as well or are they now being hooked up behind M1088s? I'm looking for one to go behind my 931, and a step-deck would do nicely for pulling round bales.
I suspect that you may be right about this being the cause Julian. I tried to get it to make the same noise today and it was there, but not as loud as normal. I didn't let the engine warm all the way up, so once everything expands the gear lash could increase a little, causing the sound. In...
I'll workout the power steering this afternoon and report back. Doesn't sound like a spline skipping, but won't rule it out yet. Maybe a better way to describe the sounds is a really nasty case of piston slap, if you're familiar with what that sounds like.
All,
I have a 931A2 that I'm getting up to top mechanical shape, and have a problem that is a bit confusing. The truck builds air pressure fine, and except for one of the tank valves leaking, holds air great. The air governor cuts out at 125psi and cuts back in at ~95psi after being adjusted...
IIRC, that was a common occurrence with the XLs used on the M35A3s, mainly because they had a habit of sitting flat for too long and damaging the sidewall. Never heard of that with the M939A1s that the big XLs came on.
It seems that the popular belief is that M35s and 5-tons can go absolutely anywhere and never get stuck. The truth is that they can go places most vehicles can't while hauling heavy loads, but they aren't unstoppable. They do well for what they were designed to do: Pull cargo over rough dirt...
Something else people don't consider on the battery terminals that apply to any vehicle with the cast lead pieces: Over time, the lead will work its way into the threads on the fully-threaded clamping bolt. After this happens, when you attempt to tighten the nut to tighten the terminal, you...
24ft GN cattle trailer when the ground is too muddy for a pickup to do the job. Looking to get a M871 (preferably an A3) eventually for moving round bales.
Keep in mind that if it has the AGM batteries, they can short their cells out easily when they get discharged too much. They'll end up overloading your battery charger, making it noisy and eventually causing it to overheat if the battery doesn't first. When I accidentally left the batt switch...
About $125 ea for the wheel valves complete if memory serves. Not outlandish, but not cheap either. Lead-time was the biggest issue at six weeks or more.
