okay, but my 7.3 truck with 15klb behind it is just as underpowered, weighs more, has worse aero and gets more than double the MPG.
I think there a bunch of factors, this has bugged me a lot too. I have gotten 11 MPG in my freightliner grossing about 60,000lb. (proof)...
I posted that pretty late at night and didn't mention a very important thing:
I filter /everything/ with 1 micron dust filter bags that I buy on ebay. They're dirt cheap and each one lasts around 100-150 gal before I'm too imptatient for how long it takes to filter. You could probably wash...
Maybe a little off topic since it's different but whatever, you guys might like the knowledge.
I've put over 100k miles on my '99 F250 Superduty 7.3L powerstroke truck running various WMO blends - everything from 95% WMO and 5% gasoline to straight diesel. I've put several thousand gallons of...
Anyone that's done that swap, can you verify that these trucks do or do not have locking differentials in them?
Also, do the caiman axles have lockers?
So there's no lockers in these trucks?
That makes them a **** of a lot less capable off road :(
I thought they had both, but I'd be happy with at least one.
I am really eager to see if this swap works. I have considered getting custom gears made.
I would like a truck that tops out screaming at 75 mph so that 60-65 is hopefully a reasonable RPM.
these getting 6 or less highway MPG has got to be mostly the gearing, on flat land I get 7.5 grossing...
I can't find the original post you quoted - but I did some more digging on this as well. I thought this regulation applied soley to heavy duty trucks but it appears to apply medium duty and even some light duty trucks as well.
Here's a bit more information on the subject...
do you know where I could find more information on what paperwork is required?
I'd be surprised if I needed anything from any export company - but I probably will need to do some government legwork.
Thanks for the answers!

I'm guessing the poor MPG is mostly due to the gearing. What RPM is it at at 55? 2100? If I can get 6 MPG at 65 MPH and 92,000LBS gross in my work truck then I'm sure something can be done to improve the LMTV. For now, 6 MPG will have to do.
I'm...
Just signed up for this forum. I am thinking about getting an LMTV, they seem like an amazing truck for the money and I've wanted an army truck for a long time. Almost bought an M35 about 5 years ago but decided against it at the last minute. (no storage or room back then). I think the...
Hi there. Found this forum while looking for info on the M1078. I'm trying to figure out how to get my hands on one and if I can import one to Canada, among other things.
Been interested in big green stuff for a while, even considered building a tank replica once (still might some day), but...
