    MEP-802a rotor removal

FWIW the 400Hz genhead is much easier to remove and install than the 60Hz unit. I picked up a 400Hz because I needed an engine and the rotor stays in the stator when you pull the 400Hz. You pull an access grill off, disconnect 4x 12point bolts that separate the stator housing and engine, and...

Installed Mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge on MEP-803A

This is all going off of memory so take it as that. Out of the 10 or so 802s and 803s I have all of the low hour units hover around in the 40s, some maybe down to 35. Not all of these are with the mechanical gauge though. This is with fresh deere 10w30 break-in oil. All of the high hour units...

    Strip Lights inside generator

Agreed, a roll of 12v led strip lights are cheap and readily available, either run 2 chains in series or find 24v lights. My only complaint about those lights is the adhesive so I always try to affix them mechanically.

Installed Mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge on MEP-803A

Whats interesting is I have the exact mechanical gauge for oil pressure set up on my 802a and 803a that I kept for myself.... great minds think alike? As for the synthetic talk and stuff, my $.02 is if it was used for prime power then sure, but the oil degrades faster from time (condensation...

    Wheels for my MEP-803a

Anything with wheels like that are gold to me, thats a great find. Let me know how those work out, I ended up going above and beyond for my casters. Im completely happy that I can run over 1 inch ledges in concrete and over asphalt with ease without fear of damage, but at the price for the...

    My Mep-803a standby generator project

I beat this subject to death a while back and also again when I was getting into the MEPs. Since I deal with commercial gens and breakout boxes sometimes ive noticed that lots of generators have the normal big boy lugs but also have 120v and 240v single phase convenience receptacles. The 240 are...

MEP-804A single phase 120/240 conversion issue

The reason its so expensive is because my lot is already developed (house built 40 years ago) so I dont qualify for the new service discount. If it was an undeveloped piece of land it would be much much cheaper for the single phase (Im sure they would still charge me for the 3 phase) My...

MEP-804A single phase 120/240 conversion issue

Well isnt that cheating, I like using a rope to start my 16,000lb milling center using the 5hp idler I have. I do have a rotary phase converter for it but havent hooked it up since moving. been too busy rebuilding gens lately.

    MEP-002a LED Light Flicker

I guess Ill have to do the same with the o-scope. Most of my house is Cree led bulbs and when I had the 802 connected I had the same problem. It wasnt so much the cree but I do have a cheaper brand led rope light where it was noticeable. The flicker is the same with a brushed 3600 rpm and my...

MEP-804A single phase 120/240 conversion issue

Stop making me jealous.... the power company wants to charge me $4800 to upgrade the service from 150A single phase to 400A single phase.... Thats because im at the end of the line so Id need my own transformer. Great no problem, but the current pole is a 4' neutral instead of a 6' neutral so I...

    MEP-803A Injector Thread Size

2nd vote for a Parker dealer. They seem to have everything when I need stuff like that. Side note, whats the pressure expected for these injectors to pop?

Not a bad weekend for working on a few MEPs - fun with thermal imager

Ahh now isnt this a nice gem of info here... I never knew that and looks like now I can quantify how my "damaged and replaced by shipping insurance but they never asked for the panel back" solar panels are doing. Back layer was damaged but still produces similar to the rest in the array. I know...

Not a bad weekend for working on a few MEPs - fun with thermal imager

Definitely handy for sure. My friend that I work on these MEPs with owns an automotive shop so he has a nice high-res snapon imager that the tool truck used as a demo unit so he got it for the same price as a Flir or other medium brand. At the time it had 4x the resolution than the Flir unit on...

Not a bad weekend for working on a few MEPs - fun with thermal imager

About 20 hrs this weekend working on the MEPs we have. Sat was 46 and for some reason for me its perfect ice cream weather so I enjoyed some ice cream with a MEP in the background. Some other highlights included unsticking 2 fuel racks in 2 different gens. Each gen had a seized pump so those...

Laugh for everybody about generator sizing and AHCA

Heres a laugh for you guys regarding generators for the stuff I see in the field. Purely entertainment purposes, 1 story from this weekend and 1 from a while ago. So my company recently took over an account a week before the holidays. A skilled nursing facility. Ive been onsite there averaging...

Price for a 803A in good shape

I wouldnt mind seeing what you used for extra sound insulation. my home units could be quieter as I dont like to piss my neighbors off. Looks like we have the same mindeset / process for refurbing the units. (except the rivnuts, but me working in server rooms I have thousands of the clip...

MEP-831A SLC100 Governor Controller Replacement Prototype

Very nice. Subbed and will keep this in mind once I get the inverter rebuilt in my 831 and see how it runs.

    Waterlogged 803a

Thats what I ended up doing. Havent done the swap yet but thats what the plan is.

Price for a 803A in good shape

I agree with this statement. With the maintenance I do on pretty much anything, I push the service life of whatever it is way out. My vehicles are all 'in for the long haul' type of maintenance and I expect these generators as lifetime generators for me. Like for these gen sets, Ive converted...

    Going through auction 803a

Have you had luck with generic orings in the place of the square cut ones?
