What does a Water Buffalo weigh?

Is it a male or a female? Usually the males weigh more. http://www.whattheasian.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/chinesewaterskiing.jpg

    8x8 Deuce

I think 8x8 is great. But on pavement you don't need it. Make it a lift axle mounted to pneumatic bags or hydraulics. When you need it off road then lower the 4th axle. A single axle w/wheels is about 2000 lbs give or take. That will NOT affect your registration status with the DMV. It...

How do I haul a trailer without using air brakes?

You do know that you can have that giant generator shipped, right? It might cost $$ but if it's only a one-time thing then let someone else (a shipping company) take the liability of transporting it. Are you aware of natural gas powered emergency generators that automatically kick on in the...

How do I haul a trailer without using air brakes?

Don't most states require functioning trailer brakes on any trailer over 3000lbs GVWR? That puts any of the M105 trailers over the limit for "legally" pulling it without trailer brakes. If you buy it you should consider modifying it for surge brakes. I assume you are looking at an M105A2. 2cents

    the bottom of the barrel

You've just answered your own question. If you've ever lived in California you would know that basically everything is 2-3x the price of anywhere else in the country (lower 48 ) ... rent, restaurants, parking fees, utilities, tickets for any social event, real estate, automobiles, name it &...

To Bob or not To Bob?

Yes. A powered, liftable pusher axle on a stretched frame would be interesting.

What is the best engine to have in a 76 deuce?

Yes, stroker engines produce more torque compared to NON-stroker versions of the same engine. Stroker engines have LESS c.i.d. than the non-stroker version. Example a 400 chevy small block turns into a 377 c.i.d. giving quicker revs & torque. But in that case the trade off is the crank is...

What is the best engine to have in a 76 deuce?

Yes, torque is a function of displacement. There may be more or less torque based on the throw of the crank journals and the length of the connecting rods. But, the bulk of displacement comes from piston diameter. And large diameter pistons produce more torque compared to small diameter...

    Reverse gear, deuce surges

Push in the clutch. The harmonics will die down almost instantly. Let the clutch back out at a different engine RPM. Mine does that every time I back into the side of my house (uphill in avatar). It starts out fine in the street. Then when I give it a little gas to get the rear wheels over...

What is the best engine to have in a 76 deuce?

That's the problem with reading pages on a blog. Sometimes the "context" that would be apparent in verbal communication is lost in print. What I was trying to convey was that torque is a direct function of displacement. Yes, a turbo adds to torque after it spools up. But low RPM torque is...

What is the best engine to have in a 76 deuce?

The transmission you choose will help you to decide what engine would be better. If you are keeping the Spicer then you may as well simply keep the multifuel. If you plan a different tranny then consider another engine. Just because the bell housing fits, that doesn't necessarily mean the...

What is the best engine to have in a 76 deuce?

Remember when it comes to torque ... there's no replacement for displacement. I would avoid the smaller engines. Since you are going through the trouble of swapping, put a decent "upgrade" in the truck. The 5.9 ISB is probably the smallest to consider for an upgrade. That's roughly a 350...

    bobbed and lifted deuce

Actually, I've been following this argument on the SS forum for a while. From a "structural" standpoint it's okay to weld the Deuce frame. It is not heat tempered like the 5 ton. From a "legal" standpoint I do not believe you are allowed to weld the frame unless you are a certified...

    Rear Main Seal leaking....again

Take it back to the shop. One of the "juniors" obviously didn't install the new seal right. Have them check for gouging on the crank where the seal touches. If they JUST replaced it, then by law they will have to fix it again.

    bobbed and lifted deuce

Not a big deal. I'm thinking of just making an extra crossmember that bolts to the deuce's rear crossmember & back of frame rails, then weld it to the dump hinge. That way DOT is happy, I'm happy, the dump hinge is happy, SS members are happy, and the Deuce frame is happy. Numerous grade-8...

    Driving ?

Don't worry about your driving skills. You can easily drive this truck with a few hours practice. It's like a 24' motorhome with a manual transmission. But the OTHER drivers are what you should worry about. I found out they will creep right up on your bumper (where you can't see them in the...

    Oil Leek at highway speeds

Have you considered that maybe one of your pistons is getting excessive blow-by which builds up crankcase pressure at high rpm? It could be as easy as a pcv valve (if these engines even have such a thing).
