$17000-$43000 is cheap? I know it comes to ~$1000 per truck, but I'd have a hard time coming up with that kind of cash. (says they man with $10,000 in MV's :-P)
1. Fun and alot of work. People either love it or hate it. I don't think they are that easy to drive.
2. As long as they are properly maintained and driven as instructed in the manuals. It really depends on your definition of safe. At 13,000lbs a deuce is approx. 3-4 times heavier than most...
Must be an Alabama thing. I brought back another one of my trucks today from Huntsville and have axle leaks on the outside on one wheel, and an inner leak on another wheel.
Most of the links in that google search were relating to oxy tanks and fires. The rest were from over pressure.
Like I said, if it's already got a pinhole leak, it's not going to explode.
I think some of you haven't thought this through. It's isn't going to explode like a bomb. If so, how come it didn't blow up from the first pinhole leak? Especially since the smaller the hole, the higher the velocity, the larger the hole, the higher the volume of air escaping.
Go and fill up...
Haha, I just got plates for my first 2 deuces, and so I HAD to take one up to Home Depot to get some materials to make a license plate bracket and 2 cinder blocks for another project.
I have a pinhole leak in one of my trucks. It drove home from Redstone just fine too. I'm just going to take some rubber and a big hose clamp to stop the leak. I'm not going to pay $120 for a friggin air tank.
I was out trail riding and had a dog bone come off. I had to chain up the front-rear axle to get it home. It took all of 5 min to do that and 30 min to get the tires in the bed :)
It's not a difficult job. BTW make sure you level the axle with the other one AND with each side. Mine had shifted...
