    Found a 5 ton gasser.

Unmolested cargo gassers have to be somewhat rare. Many were changed to LDS mult-fuels in the '60s and '70s. Nothing wrong with the big 6602, just likes lots of gas. Also, no other truck will catch you on flat going with the 2800-3000 rpm readline these engines will run. We shift ours @ 2800...

    sprag gear transfercase question

All the 5 tons (M39s and M800s) use a sprag transfer case that has air shift through the transmission valves forward and reverse. Some outfits added an air switch like the M35s that just shuts off the air to the transmission valves, so then the sprags go into neutral. DO NOT run the truck if...

M52 running out of "get up and go"

Truck would set and idle fine and run around the job site at low speed OK, but was way off on power going down the road. Hooked up a timing light and watched the mark as the rpm was raised. The "cam" is not the point bump cam, but rather the weight cam under the point plate the determines the...

M52 running out of "get up and go"

Also, there is no vacuum advance on the stock distributor, just the internal mechanical.

M52 running out of "get up and go"

Had issues with the Zeinth carb on ours, the governor diaphram was split and leaked so the governor didn't work. Also, bought a "rebuilt" distributor from Memphis that had the wrong advance cam in it, so when the engine speed increased, the timing retarded!! As stated, check the advance with...

    More 3053a questions!

There is a guy in the Nashua, NH area that has put a 3-53 in an M37 w/ a deuce OD transmission. No idea how to reach him, but maybe he or a buddy read the forum. He drives the truck year round every day!! Looks stock from the outside until it starts.

MV ignition distributor with Civilian Wires

We had M-Series Rebuild, LLC in NC install an electronic module (Pertronix) in a spare distributor from the parts truck. Told us it was the first one that they had done in a 5 ton. It was a little pricey, but fired off with the first turn of the starter. Not really much difference in running...

    4A032 Carburetor Issue

Not sure, have to find the tube and check. It was a sealer sold by local auto supply house that was gas proof, and looked like weather strip cement.

    Tranny Flush

Had to flush the transfer case on the water truck due to the sprags sticking. Used fuel oil and ATF 50/50. Just drove it back and forth and slowly around about 1/4 mile, then drained and refilled with std. GL-5 from Sam's or Tractor Supply. Has worked OK since. Drained flush was very black...

Bridge truck on CL in MA CHEAP !!!!

Havn't seen the pics, but if it is an M139, it is a very large and heavy flatbed w/ steel rack sides and a rear roller. The bridge was in sections and just pulled off or on to the truck by another trucks winch or with an M62/543. Attached pic is of our spare truck w/ additional body off the now...

    Widest Tire On Dualies?

Bridge trucks run 20x10 very deep dish wheels w/ about 1" spacers on the rears and 4"+ on the front. Also, the rear ends are spaced apart more than normal 5 tons and the axles are wider hub to hub, ends up with the dual rears over-width for normal street use. You can run dual 1600x20s on a...

    4A032 Carburetor Issue

All three of the little engines in this series use the same carb, and they all are a problem. The fit of the float inside the bowel is so tight, that only a little swelling will cause it to stick open and flood the engine. We did the sanding fix on one 2 cylinder engine and coated the float on...

Napa part numbers for M52 Gas engine

The LO manual for this truck/engine is on the site under resources, and I strongly suggest you download it. Also the TM for the same. For the cap, rotor, points and such I would call Saturn or Memphis. For the plugs, I got them local at a larger auto/truck supply house or you can get them...

Air compressor Belt replacement on gas engine

If I put the right number in the file, it is a NAPA 28412 belt. Belt is thicker and wider than the fan belts.

Air compressor Belt replacement on gas engine

We changed the belts on the M139 without removing the rad. Just be carefull of the fins and the fan. If I recall, you have to remove the fan belts first. Also make sure that the adjuster pulley halves turn so you can adjust the new belt.

    Installing new M52 Exhaust pipe

We installed a full 4" Walker big truck muffler on the M139 and just used a 4" down turn pipe directly out the back. It does kick up a lot of dust, but that is what the water spray heads are for. Also, going down the road, from a chase car it looks like we have a jet turbine under the tank...

    MEP-016C, 3ph load?

3 kw unit is 208 volts on 3 phase. Hoist would have to be the same, and I thinnk it would work. One hp would use about 2 kw to start.
