Don't think it's a bridge truck, as the rears are not spread like the M139, no spacers on the front axle, and it looks like the frame is not plated in front of the rear tandems. M54 gasser?
Will check grounds again, however, on the water truck, the starter and ignition both work OK, so I think it may be the grounding of the sender itself. On the tractor, there is good continuity between the tanks and the frame so I think the sender(s) and the newer gauge are not compatible. The...
Have installed a new (to us) gauge panel in the Mack tractor, and now the temp gauge "jumps" between rest and actual reading or full & actual when running. Have also had this problem with the water truck on the oil pressure, when running down the road, it will peg but if you let up on the gas...
OD Iron or Memphis both have new. Strongly suggest that you look at the fingers of the pressure plate also, as these would take most of the abuse if the bearing failed. We changed out the whole clutch when the throwout bearing started to go in our truck. Can do it through the cab with an...
Have you tried to mount the front wheels dish in? That is how the original 1400x20's are mounted. If you do have to remove the front spacers, you will have to get new studs, as the originals are extra long to hold the spacer. Not sure, but are your rear hubs flipped? If not, you may want to...
Before you pull the case or try to fix while in truck, it would be a cheap fix to try and flush the case once or twice and refill with new gear oil. If you look at the TM on these, the rollers can stick in the "off" location in the sprag case and not engage the output shaft. Just go easy, not...
We have one of these trucks also, just be aware that they are nearly 12' wide and not really legal for on-highway use w/o special permits. Running gear, axles and frame are the same as the M139 water truck, so you can flip the hubs and run single rear tires/wheels, but the lift frame and side...
Also, your comment about white smoke from the exhaust, ours, when fully warmed up has no real smoke going down the road, just a lot of heat clouds and a small amount of black smoke when under a load or when the gas pedal is mashed. Looks a little like it has a turbine for an engine. White...
When we first started our truck, the gauge was NG, so I installed a cheap VIP import direct gauge w/ nylon tube and hung it from the wiper. It would run @ about 60+ psi, until good and warmed up and then drop to 25-30 or so at idle and 60 more or less at speed. The electric sender/gauge on...
I installed one of the upgrades on our unit, and the only trick was that the coils are not both installed with the printed "up" up. If the unit was made by one outfit, you do, but if by Colt, the left one is up and the right one is down! Only found it by reading the manual and it was only one...
That must really "talk" with those straight pipes. Ours sounded like a mini VW with the pipes open. Talk to the guys @ Northwest Equipment if you want a starter. Usually on E-bay.
Don't hold me to this, but if I recall correctly, the #1 & #3 cylinders are on the left and the #2 and #4 on the right, just like the little 4a032. This is also how the old VW's were numbered, with #3 always throwing an exhaust valve head.
Is your existing filter NG? The big original filter even though it is not a spin on is a real good filter and water seperator and was rated for the flow rate of the big 855 Cummins which includes a large amount of recirculation during operation.
All 5 ton multis to the best of my little knowledge were straight non-overdrive 5 speeds, the same as the gasser. It really is a better transmission than the OD as the gear spread is much more even, and does not have the RPM drop between gears like the 3-4 split on the OD.
Of the two links JasonS gave me above, the one in TX or OK the email was NG and the other in Canada did not have anything. Back to stage one. Will try John T's suggestion in Mass.
