There are a number of sites on the Internet dealing with these little engines used in ultra-lite aircraft. I read on one, that there is a Mazda starter that with a little work will fit this engine.
I used the 24 volt unit and just jump it off a truck if it's home or two batteries in series...
Did it on the water truck. Just be prepared for the weight of the hubs w/ drums-all two guys want to handle. Also, don't forget the little cork in the keyway!!
Thanks all.
I already have a 2nd new Zenith I got off E-bay, but have already robbed the governor unit off it. The truck is now in winter hibernation, but I know that there is an issue with the carb and will have to dig into the float bowel at some point before we use it again. Just trying to...
In the past, some gear oils with ratings greater than GL-1 contained additives that would "eat" brass and bronze parts in the transmissions or transfer cases. Most if not all "modern" GL-5 gear oils contain the correct additives so it is OK to use with bronze/brass part. You still should...
All gear boxes (three rear ends, transfer case and transmission) on the 5 tons use gear oil, GL-1, per the lube oil manual. I have used GL-5 with the correct ML rating for bronze parts in the transmissions. The lube order should be on here under the Resources section for downloading.
A little off topic, but there was a guy at the Weare show this last summer with an M37 w/ a 3-53 from a Gamma-Goat and he was using the 5 speed out of the M35. Drives the thing year round. I have no idea how he hooked everything up, but with the 3-53 the engine compartment is real full.
Still looking for a gasket or full rebuild kit for the replacement Zenith carb used on the R6602 gassers, starting in the 1980's. Have had no luck as of yet. Anyone have a good lead or suggestion? The carb # is C182-1187A List #0-13926 Model 29D14R.
Thanks
Thanks for the link, but I needed the little "black box" inside the amp box mounted on the top (side) of the engine. Got a complete retro fit kit on e-bay for $25m + freight.
By installing the jumper, so we have a neutral, we get the correct 240 volts single phase @ 3 kw, which is what we wanted. Using two legs of the 208 3 phase setting, as suggested by someone, still only gives you 208 volts single phase and only part use of the already limited 3 kw rating (about...
After we got the M812A1, I decided to drain and flushout the cooling system, as it seemed to be very "muddy". The big Cummins has a number of small vent hoses and tubes due to the location of the overflow tank and the top of the radiator. These were all plugged with rust/mud! Installed tees...
Installed the jumper, and got 240 volts between the two hot legs and 120 volts from each hot leg to the L0 neutral. Seem to work great.
Now, can the same thing be done with the little 1.5 kw units? Same problem. no neutral when the switch is in 240 volts.
Thanks
Forward and reverse sprags are in the transfer case, and operated by an air cylinder which in turn is controlled by valves attached to the transmission shifter. Strongly suggest that you drain, flush and refill transfer case to cleanup any sludge in the case that may be affecting the shifting...
AC not really a problem for us in NH in December, just want to be able to use lights and keep the refrigerator running. Furnace should run on 3 kw if we only run it when the refrigerator is unpluged. Have Town water and gas hot water so not much else needed. Would love to have a 5 kw, but the...
