I find it hard to believe folks complaining about $950, $1000 prices as "High".
Fort Lewis had ONE Deuce up for auction. A WO/W, non-dropside truck (with yellow spray paint on some engine components) and it went for at least $3100. I mean, this was a 1971 M35A2, identical to the one I bought...
Now that I think about it, he was a 1st Class when he had us paint the boat engines.
When he was a Chief he had us touch up everything when the paint got chipped... which was all the time, due to the PMS system's insistence on taking perfectly good, working equipment apart and making it broken...
Maybe it was a Navy truck. In the Navy we painted everything based on the purpose- Lube oil systems were yellow, fuel systems were purple (because we used JP5), cooling water (freshwater) were blue, and raw water were green. I had a Chief who insisted we do the same with the small boats...
Nice CUCV. I haven't seen seats that clean in awhile. And yes, that's the first time Ft Lewis had CUCVs in any quantity in a long time (sometimes ones/twos of cannibalized stuff). I know I bid on that truck, but the prices have more than doubled which is well out of my range.
Sounds like my...
I second waiting for CARNAC, though you can narrow it down a bit if you know the manufacturer. Unfortunately that doesn't help if the dataplate doesn't have the MFR. GENERALLY (and this is up to interpretation and not an absolute) if it's an AM General, its 1972 or newer. If it's a...
The 30,000 GVW registration probably is what put it over the limit as far as the licensing/stickering requirements. Usually 26,001 is the dividing line (A Deuce is usually 23,050 or so GVW).
Whether 3-axles is an instant "Commercial" moniker varies from State to State.
The "Are 3-axle RVs...
I don't understand why they would treat the shelter as anything different from a truck camper shell. But then again I'm not an insurance agent. If you're trying to get odd insurance (like collector insurance) I might see why that's a problem, but insuring it as a regular pickup with regular...
Mine is beyond help. It's so dirty it looks like the interior was painted desert tan. Oh, it WAS painted Desert tan... or a darker variety thereof. But the truck is green. Kinda backwards.
Pics were before I got a new 3-lever switch, as someone made off with mine before I could pick it up...
There really isn't, because they are all basically the same company. Kaiser got the contract for the trucks in the early 1960s (prior ones were built by REO) and built the trucks at the South Bend, Indiana plant that Kaiser bought from Studebaker in 1964. That was the "General Products...
Actually, one might. If someone was THINKING about bidding on a particular item but had questions. Sure, one could PM or call someone else, but what if you don't know WHO to ask? How can you ask a question about a particular item if you can't say what item you're talking about?
Someone else...
That seems like an overly strict interpretation of the rule, as the rule doesn't say anything to that effect. In fact the rule itself leaves a door open: "Very unusual or interesting items may be shared in the appropriate forums."
If a total ban is what the rule means in the Forum Rules...
If the tach is one of the newer, plastic-housing tachs I've found them to be less than reliable. The housing warps if there's any side strain on the cable (and there always is a little as the cable isn't a perfect straight shot from the firewall). I ended up buying a used, metal-housing 70s...
Well, I know the 6BT made it into Military boats... Generally displaced the Detroits and the Volvo-Pentas they used through the early 90s. I worked on quite a few in the Navy. Single and dual engine boats. Good engine, but a bear to work on in a boat.
Yeah, I bid a couple up to $1700 but then thought "Why am I doing that". It's the first time I've seen more than 2 CUCVs for sale at Ft Lewis at the same time. They've been pretty rare around here.
I really should have bought the one I was bidding on 2 years ago, when the prices were a more...
I've never seen a 3-lever switch with the blackouts on the right. But I haven't had or driven dozens of MVs- just my Deuce, and the 4 various 5-tons, 3 Deuces, and a couple HMMWVs when I was in the Reserves. Due to having been required to do so, I run Service Drive all the time (daylight or...
Ford did in fact enter the CUCV contract bid process. So did Chrysler and American Motors.
The following excerpt is from March-April 1982 "Field Artillery Journal". I'm assuming since Diesel Power was a requirement Chrysler and AMC (which soon merged) ended up dropping having not developed a...
Smog testing of diesel engines is nothing new. I'm surprised California hasn't been doing it- Washington has been testing Diesels via the opacity method for over 10 years. This doesn't mean just Mercedes and VWs... I've seen semi-tractors in line. There's no GVW limit on testing.
The "Saving...
