    Fort Lewis Parts Trucks

The 2 M35A2s went for a couple hundred more than the one I drove out of there last year. The A2Cs didn't go for as high as I'd think they would. I considered bidding on the 813 but with no towbar and not knowing if it had a rod through the block or not I wasn't gonna risk it on no preview...

    Need Deuce Alternator

Not to mention if you try to buy one from GL it's a minimum $150 bid on something of unknown condition. If you can even find them; the GL here at Ft Lewis just pitches all alternators/generators and starters into a 5-yard dumpster and sells them as metal scrap (by the bin, mutilation required)...

    Gulfway Ins. Limitation WOES!!!

I've got State Farm, but I'm paying through the nose for it. For some reason I pay a LOT for vehicle insurance (my car policy, which is through GMAC, is also quite expensive.) But my car policy is a Broadform policy that covers "anything under 1-ton payload" and the Deuce didn't qualify. I...

    fiberglass bows and troop seats

I have the unfortunate situation of having partial Fiberglas. The bow uprights are Fiberglas, the curves are wood, the troop seats are wood except one or 2 boards which were replaced with Fiberglas. Definitely need to do something since I get a bunch of slivers if I touch the wood parts.

    Noob from Monroe, Washington

I didn't think it was out of line being no lot numbers or links were used, but I'll just walk on eggshells next time I have info I think is helpful on local GL rigs. I just don't want to see someone new "Spinning the wheel of fortune" if they don't want to.

    how bad is your yard?

I have 17 Datsuns, the Deuce, a '71 F250, 2 boats (a 14 ft dinghy and a 21ft jet boat), a utility trailer, and a 18' flatbed equipment trailer in my yard. Well, that's everything with wheels at least. I also have a hydroplane capsule (made from a F16 canopy) in the yard as "Yard Art". And...

    Noob from Monroe, Washington

The guys at the Ft Lewis DL make an attempt to start all of them, but you may note that 2 of those trucks don't have slave cable attachments (one looks like it never had one, and the other is sitting on the passenger seat). If the engines on the 2 that do have slave cable adapters don't turn...

    Some unusual Deuce parts

Datsuns as in cars, not Dachshund the dog. I have around 17 of the things. My neighbors LOVE me. I don't live out in a rural area, I live in an urban grid. 17 Datsuns, a rusty Ford F250, a Deuce, 2 boats, a utility trailer, and an 18ft flatbed equipment trailer on a 100x90 lot (that also...

    Some unusual Deuce parts

Derek, it's also notable that the dataplate has been removed as well... missing screw that doesn't line up with the hole anymore (probably more due to the screws being gone, as I can see the hole behind). The flat-bar Grille is more typical of the older trucks as well though not as telling as...

    Some unusual Deuce parts

Being that the last vestiges of REO died in bankruptcy in 1975, there's no way a 1979 Deuce is a REO. In fact I believe the last REO Deuces were built before the 1967 merger with Diamond T. I know Kasier-Jeep got their first M35 contracts in 1964, and made them through around 1970. On an...

Overhaul questions/ FDC bypass at Tooele? Always?

Well, I can see why it wasn't completely clear to me whether it was or wasn't. It's bypassed, but there's no "white plastic line" nor any loop on the FDC. The FDC has caps where he T's are supposed to be. So, it can't be reconnected without buying more hardware. Not that I intended to...

Overhaul questions/ FDC bypass at Tooele? Always?

As I said, I have no sticker on the oil filter canister (all 4 filter canisters are flat olive drab green paint) and there isn't a single sticker under the hood on anything- not even on the cold-start device (usually a warning sticker about the ether). It's been a rare Deuce I've seen that...

    Golden Dueces

Also has to do with location... more trucks, lower average price. When I first started bidding in 2002 average price of a complete, WO/W A2 was around $1000 if they had a dozen or more at Ft Lewis, but over $1500 if there were less than 5. When I bought mine there were 20 some trucks up at...

Overhaul questions/ FDC bypass at Tooele? Always?

Thank you, those are much clearer. I'd gotten discouraged finding the same shrunken and blurry image on thread after thread, I should have just kept looking. They do leave a bit out but for checking to see if it was done I think I can figure it out. Heck, I might not even HAVE a compensator...

Overhaul questions/ FDC bypass at Tooele? Always?

Yeah, I tried that, but even after I "blew it up" it was still too fuzzy to see. I'm not talking about the thumbnail. This is the thread I'm talking about: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?t=13065&highlight=compensator+bypassed

Overhaul questions/ FDC bypass at Tooele? Always?

OK, so I was reading on another post that many Deuces had the FDC "bypassed" for various reasons when they went through Depot rebuilds in the late 80s-90s. I had never heard of such when I was in the Navy Reserves (we had 2 Multifuel Deuces) but then again we only ran Diesel in 'em. I've also...

Bulb Voltage interchange Chart (6V 12V 24V, for trailers and trucks)

Just be advised that the standard 12V 1157 2-element bulb and the listed 1662 24V 2-element bulb are actually wired opposite. I had to do some wire swapping to make that exchange work. Haven't found a TRUE 24V "1157" replacement.

    Interesting Blazers

We had one of those Blazers in my old Navy unit. It was an '87 so it was NEWER than the CUCVs. Yes, it had the smaller Civilian axles and a 700R4 (I think) OD transmission and actually ran at freeway speeds without sounding like it was gonna fly apart. They were OD green from the factory...

Got stuck with commercial plates in ny, whats the weight of an 08?

It's funny, here in WA I've had 2 different titling experiences. When I titled my Deuce, the lady at the DOL just asked me what I wanted the GVWR to be. It was printed right on the SF97 "Gross Weight 23,050 lbs". She put in 20,000 for the title, but the reg says 23050. Dunno. Now, when I...

Got stuck with commercial plates in ny, whats the weight of an 08?

Some States are quite odd with their "truck" licensing. Here in WA, which is the norm for the West, if it has a bed, a box, or a 5th wheel it's a truck (cargo vans count as "box"). The plate on a VW Rabbit Pickup is no different than the plate on a semi-tractor. The FEE is different (but...
