It appears you are correct. The 1 1/4 to 2 1/2 tons "can" be welded if necessary. The CUCV & 5 ton are the heat-treated frames that require special welding considerations.
If nobody thanked you yet, THANKS. I've been trying to find out if the Deuce frame is weldable for months. What would...

Get a step tank (fuel) from another type of truck. Replace the tool box under the driver's door with the step tank. Leave the battery box where it is, just fabricate some rock sliders under it. Add tag(pusher)-type axle hubs on each side, one where the spare tire was & the other where...
??? You had someone quote you 1400 each? That's highway robbery for the foolish. I priced those exact tires about two months ago and they were running 350 a piece, brand new.
It seems the transfer case is the weak link in this vehicle. Does it not have an oil slinger or pump in it? From the outside it sure looks beefy enough to handle rough treatment. I'm surprised how many posts that I've read here about transfer case problems.
This guy has a fantastic sounding...
Looking at that wash bed full of rocks that you are playing in, I'd say that doubling the transfer case could be useful. Just plan on doing a power steering upgrade as well to make going up those rocks much easier at slow speed.
That's a perfect idea. In hindsight I kind of wish now that I would have bought an M36 instead of the M35. But it's such a pain to get registered that I don't really feel like going through that again. Are M36 trucks easy to find?
You used front springs & hangers on the rear correct? So you ground off the rivets and used bolts on the hangers.
I'm curious if bolts are as strong as rivets. I would like to move my dual-axle rears back a little on the frame. Would grade 8 fine-threaded bolts be just as strong as the...
I was kind of thinking of that as well. That's the problem with hobbies. You always want to keep everything just in case. Right now I have an entire shed full of Chevy blocks, heads, cranks, Muncie trannies, etc. from when I went through my Chevy phase.
Now that I'm into my Army-truck-RV...
Unfortunately, I won't have it pulled out until next year. Right now I'm gathering parts. This summer I'm planning to rebuild all the axles & make a crew cab. Next spring is when I'm planning the engine & transmission swap.
I don't even know what a multifuel is worth. It runs really good...
Quick note,
I measured the rear spring to end of frame distance. it's almost exactly 4 feet. If I want any more space out of the frame without cutting or welding I'll have to move the front spring hangers forward about 11 inches. I think I'll just move the bed 4' and take it from there. I...
Actually, driveline shops that specialize in rock crawling can do some amazing things with short drivelines. They can make full spline, double CV, high angle, high torque drivelines in amazingly small packages.
I am also curious about secondary low gearing for a truck this size. For regular...
Cool. I'll look into doing all that one-by-one. I'm not sure what pop testing is, but I'll read up on it. It's nice to know there are so many Cummins mechanics here. I'll definitely have questions once the project hits high gear.
On a nonsequitur, does anyone know if the front and rear...
