Piercedtiger,
My M101 does not have surge brakes. I have a 14' tilt deck trialer with air over hydraulic brakes. I've got a couple surge break couplers with the pintle hooks. I just haven't had time to see if the setup will work. It's just too freaking cold outside to be messing around.
I've tried mounting the spare tire on the front of the M101 and it makes the tongue a little heavy to lift. So, I put mine over one of the wheel wells. I'll probably get a mount for it to go underneath the bed.
Can someone with a surge brake setup please post photos of the system? I know there is a controller with a pintle hitch on it. Are there just lines running to the brakes or are there any other solenoids or valves?
Thanks!
Here are some pics of the civvy tires on my M101. I had trouble finding the NDT's so I went with these which are far better on the highway at highway speeds.
I use my M1009 as a daily driver and am very impressed with it. Im generally a Ford truck person but I am surprised by the M1009. I've crossed the country three times in mine and got no better than 16mpg, 11mpg towing a trailer. They are very, very, slow going up mountains especially with a...
Bruce,
I used this to get my M117A trailer from North Carolina. Had no problem towing it back to NJ. I then gave it to Jude Meehan and he uses it for his office trailer without any problems. I wouldn't know the max weight it can carry but if you wanted to go bigger, I would mount it on an...
What if you changed the bumper completely? Try mounting an M1008 bumper which is a diamond plate step bumper. Just remove the pintle hitch assembly (if it comes with it) and put your license plate and light there. You would still have the military look. Here is an M1008 bumper mounted on an...
I was invited by Ed (mutt_kahuna on SS) to join a group of guys in the Reno area to display our vehicles for the Veterans Guest House. They were doing a fund raiser and our vehicles helped bring in many donations. The guys I met were a good group and I am sure I will meet up with them again...
I have a trailer that has air over hydraulic brakes. I also have a couple of surge brake setups. Can I remove the air actuated portion of my trailer brakes and install the surge directly to the hydraulic lines on the trailer? Seems like this would be cheaper than swapping out the axles for...
I made my own dolly out of an M105 and a military fift wheel plate. All I did was weld some 1/2" steel on the frame of the M105 then bolt and weld the plate on. Really simple and cheap parts. Overall cost was $175.
Mark,
Too bad you aren't doing this later. I'll be in NJ on the 27th. I'll pass along the word to Sean Mehrlander in Jackson, NJ. I don't think he is on SS. He's got the DOKA white Unimog.
Dave,
The batteries are new but not mil spec. They were holding a charge before I did the electrical diagnostics. It's possible they are too dead to accept a charge right now. I will have to trickle charge them and see if they lose anything over the coming days. I was just curious as to how...
I don't know anything about generators so excuse the ignorance.
Recently, I was working on the electrical system on my Mighty Mite and wound up draining the batteries. I jump started it and ran it for over an hour. After shutting it off, the batteries were still dead. I tried it again...
Thanks for the info Dave. I've got the manuals and have tracked down wires. Everything is geting power so it is just a matter of replacing components now. That's why I wanted to know where the fuel sending unit was. I didn't see any wires going to the tank.
I'm trying to fix a bunch of electrical stuff that isn't working on my Mite. Just a few questions:
1. Where is the circuit breaker for the horn? The book shows one but I can't find it. Is it in the steering column? I put a new, working horn on but still no beep beep.
2. Where is the fuel...
