We have had a pretty good cold snap here in CT. My 6.5 Suburban has not been happy. But the old M1008 started every day, although it took some cranking. So I used a meter to test resistance on my glow plugs in the truck. Put one lead on the spade, one on the block. I found four that showed as...
Dash clicking solved
So today I went to move the sun visor to block the sun. When I touched it, I heard that dreaded click! It is the sun visor!!!! Sounds just like it is coming from the dash. Anyone have M1008 sun visors they could part with (Not if they click though).
Doghead, thanks very much for the picture. Along with your description it will be a snap. I will make a new wire, and preserve the original. I picked up the AC 60G plugs tonight, and may tackle the job tomorrow. Is it best to do this with the engine hot, or cold? At least I can see the glow...
From what I have read in several posts, the 24V goes through a resistor that 'senses' the glow plug load, and adjusts the 24V to 12V, and works fine.........unless a glow plug or a few go bad, which raises the voltage load on the rest of the glow plugs...which burns another out....raises load...
What a truck! It started today at 16 degrees. Granted, it took a little cranking, but it started. I had to take it in to work because the 6.5 Suburban wouldn't start.
I checked the glow plugs in the M1008 with a meeter tonight, and I quit after I found 4 with no resistance. And still the old...
I followed the TM to see what causes my GEN 2 light to stay on dimly when engine running. Ran the tests:
Driver side Alternator putting out 14.7 volts at idle.
Passenger side alternator putting out 30.1 volts at idle.
Rear battery reads 15.3 volts.
Front battery reads 14.7 volts.
My voltmeter...
Spend the extra $100 and go with the local known entity. If you know they do good work with quality parts....that is worth it in my book. I don't like to gamble on parts that are a 'bit of work' to replace. I hate to use the money I saved to do a job over. My opinion, based on past experiences.
After a few unregistered 'short hops' around the area to cure my need to drive it, I finally got the M1008 registered today. Why? On a really cold day it starts better than my 6.5. Now that I was taking a legal drive, I could focus on other things besides the rear view mirror. Lots to notice...
Just wondering if anyone has experience with these glow plugs advertised on the 'Bay? Thoughts? Thanks.
6.2 L Diesel CUCV M1008 M1009 K30 K5 Glow Plugs NEW - eBay (item 110613401589 end time Dec-18-10 08:23:16 PST)
I replaced a pump on my 6.5 (Way more stuff in the way). I bagged and labeled every nut, bolt etc that I removed. I tagged or markered locations of ground straps. For the manifold bolts of different lengths, I had a cardboard box with holes punched in it to place the bolts in order as I took...
Hello all, I have a 1950's military 5K generator model JHGW5A powered by a Hercules ZXAER 4 cylinder gas engine. I need to replace a broken head stud, and also need a head gasket. I have not been able to locate a head gasket. Any known sources where I could buy a head gasket?
Also, the head...
Which would it be? M1008 or M1009? I like my M1008, but it is limited in traveling modern highways by the road speed. It is strong as an ox though. An M1009 can cruise at 65 so I have read. An M1009 is not a heavy hauling vehicle, but holds more people, and has some room inside for stuff.
I...
Hey, I feel bad now.....I kept saying it had tracks! The one I saw on ebay a while back had tracks......... I apologize to all who tried to figure this one out with mis-information! As Herman Munster used to say..."Darn-darn-darn"!
