My brother has wanted a Dodge Flat Fender to restore for some time now. He wanted a WW2 vehicle. Well, since he and I have done so much together with the current vehicles...the purchase of this 1942 Dodge flat fender should be an adventure.
We are picking up the truck in the middle of April...

Just a fun short project that I wanted to share.

Sorry...
The persons who owned the Ontos that I took the pictures of displayed it as a USMC Ontos Dragon. So, I made the mistake of assuming that the USMC had nicknamed it the Dragon.
I got the frame number directly off of the jeep just in front of the drivers side shock absorber.
I got the serial number and other information from the original glove box data plate.
I got the rest of the info at the internet links below:
http://www.surplusjeep.com/MB-GPW/mb-gpw_lead_page.htm...
Sorry...did not find anywhere in this thread where you sold the Ontos?
I believe this vehicle was also fondly referred to as the "Dragon" during its USMC service.
It is easy to say go ahead and restore it to original, but I would opt for doing just that if I could.
I have attached some pictures of a Ontos restored to whet your appetite. My very best wishes for you and the Ontos future.
Regards,
Gordon

I got the following info after looking up the original glove data plate and frame numbers found on this jeep
Frame number...
There is no spacer there upon inspection. However, the attachment holes seem out of skew as though the column was mounted a bit higher to the floor board.
Steering Column pictures
Here are the pictures I said I would post.
The steering gear box has the exhaust manifold touching it as shown in the attached pictures.
Also, does the "S" represent a replacement Saginaw steering gear as you described earlier?
