    ATF and filter question

I have to disagree with the advice to top off and run it. Sticking your head in the sand isn't going to increase your confidence to take the rig on a long trip. The transmission needs good flow to the pump. Low flow means low pressure on the clutches. Low pressure on the clutches means they...

    M1009 Water Pump

Loctite 518 is an anaerobic gasket maker, the right stuff is not. I did mine a couple years ago and used Loctite 518, no problems now. One thing that wasn't mentioned in this old thread is that there is a reverse rotation pump for the newer 6.5's with a serpentine belt... It won't work.

    IP pump question

I also attached a photo of the 5 sided plate that you can make adjustments from if the pump is removed. Maybe. So when you turn the magic screw clockwise you are allowing the counter opposed pistons in the rotor return further apart then they were allowed to before. This means that when the...

    IP pump question

Yes, there is an easier way. Remove the small 5 sided plate secured to the side of the pump with two screws. It is in the 9 or 3 o'clock position (I forget which). Once the plate is removed you can turn the rotor by hand until the hex screw is aligned with the window. Insert a nice new Allen...

who do you recommend for rebuilding CUCV injection pumps?

Just to toss this out there there seems to be two classes of pump "rebuilds" Anything cheap isn't really a rebuild, it is more of a reseal. The common inexpensive rebuilds have the advance piston bore reamed to accept a larger oversize advance piston, as the bore is aluminum and wears. The...

    Belt Wiki

I've had gates belts on my GMC with poor results. After that I tried a Dayco top cog belt and was impressed. The Dayco belt has a different profile, and seems to work well on a worn pulley. I don't have a squeal anymore.. Even when it is 5 degrees outside.

    Extreme Cold - Diagnose IP?

    1) That might be worth a look with a bore scope. I thought they had an o-ring not a gasket. 2) You are fine on the gear as best as I can tell. I have pulled my pump without issue.

Dana 60 front w/ crossover steering?

Just wanted to toss this out there. My buddies M1008 has a 4" lift and ORD's crossover and high steer kit. It turns out that the pitman they sell for 4" or more of lift has quite a bit of drop in it and is slightly longer center to center. This caused an issue on his pickup as the front axle...

Recommendations for a fairly long drive

Personally I'd like the adventure. I once drove from Chico California to Gillette Wyoming to pick up a bronco front axle. Not that you are going anymore... But I'd pack a smartphone, multimeter, 10' or so of wire, roll of electrical tape, oil, atf, water, brake fluid, hose clamps, some fuel...

    Extreme Cold - Diagnose IP?

Pull off the return line from the pump and try to start it. If the return line is clogged it will stall the engine. Other possibilities include the plastic governor weight retainer coming apart and clogging up the return or something else inside the pump. The shutoff solenoid may be faulty...

Wheel Spacers - Aluminum or Steel ?

With 2" spacers and stock HMMWV wheels your net backspacing is approx 5". Wheel width is about 8.5". This combo will be closer to stock than any of the 3.5" or 4.5" stamped steel wheels that so many people run. I think the steel spacers will work great. Ford has and still does run spacers on...

Wheel Spacers - Aluminum or Steel ?

Once the spacers are installed there is no reason to remove them for normal maintenance. I agree that it would be better to have them manufactured with 9/16" studs. One of the steel wheel spacer retailers I posted on an earlier thread by Sharecropper says they will build exactly what you...

Wheel Spacers - Aluminum or Steel ?

If you buy the spacers with the 14mm studs you can just use the lug nuts they send on the studs, and buy plain Jane 9/16 nuts to secure the spacers to your hubs. The 9/16" studs are about .011" larger than the 14mm. Only catch would be buying 9/16 lugs small enough to fit in the counterbore of...

    37" Humvee Spare Tire?

I'm also shopping for ideas for my pickup and my buddies M1008. Trying to load up a tire with a runflat is a back killer. My back bumper already weighs 300 pounds by itself, so I don't want to do a swing away carrier. I might make it mount to a headache rack, but some sort of loading assist...

    Wrangler VS BFG

https://www.motorsport-tech.com I'm really curious how the spacers turn out. Stripping the powder coating and CARC off wheels, re-centering them and coating them again is actually a pretty big project. It would be nice to just have the wheels be a bolt on, with no extra work needed. Can't...

    Wrangler VS BFG

I run wranglers on my 12 bolts. They shed well in my opinion and are pretty quiet. As far as traction goes it seems to depend on the terrain. I run mine at 30 psi with 6 oz of composite balance beads. I should have used more beads. I can air them down more, but the pickup has a load often...

    Brake conundrum

I had the combo valve blues too. I put in one of the Wilwood 260 11179 valves in my pickup where the combo valve was. I had to lengthen two of the lines and was able to make it work with a little tweaking. Make sure you have a good double flare tool before you tackle the project.

Water in the Rear axle on M1008

I 2nd that the color isn't anything to worry about. As long as there isn't scoring or wear from the race turning on the spindle you are good. I stuck with drums on mine. I like having a good parking brake. New shoes, hardware and slaves was pretty cheap on rock auto.

    Snow/Mud chains

I'd be worried about tearing those up since they are the quick style chains. That is what I have for my wife's RAV4. What worries me is the durability of the smaller perimeter chain and clips. Seems like that could get damaged easily in deep ruts. I have managed to smash up the stamped...

    Snow/Mud chains

I have had good luck with square link chains on pickups. They wear longer than twisted link chains and can be run "inside out" to get more life out of the crosslinks. I don't know about chain brands, I have had a couple different makes of square link chains, both were mystery imports. One I...
