I'd second the bearing inspection. I almost bought a low mileage M1008, but water / mud had entered the front axle and the pinion bearings were toast. Odd thing was the ring and pinion looked great, just the bearings were shot. Maybe get a dial indicator on your pinion and give it a wiggle...
The valve bodies are not different. 700R4's do have different governors in the diesel versions, but they can be had new for $50 ish. Plus the governors have a 30 year old plastic gear, so it isn't a bad idea to replace the entire governor or at least the gear. They are easy to swap, only...
2nd Westech's reply.
I got my externally threaded 9/16" nuts off eBay. I had to bore the hole larger to get the caps to fit on my 60, but they turned out nice. The offset on the newer GM rims is a little positive for my taste, I don't know if it is just me but my truck seems a little unsure...
There are a lot of swap threads. It may be easiest to find a junk diesel K5 or similar with a 700r4 to get some of the harder to find parts (the TV cable bracket and linkage). Once you get the correct diesel TV cable bracket the rest is easy to find. I have a 700r4 in my rig, it is night and...
You should probably weigh your decision on what you want to use the winch for. I cut firewood, if I ever get a winch I'll probably go for a MileMarker so I can use it to skid logs without worrying about it. Now if I was in some off road competition and needed to drive my truck like I was...
Nope.
I don't have a hydraulic winch. Your wrangler had one of the lower pressure / flow saginaw pumps made. Do you have your original pump on your CUCV? Sounds strange that you are loosing power steering while on the brakes. My K30 has almost annoyingly twitchy steering because the pressure...
I'd say go with the mile marker. Your truck already has one of the highest flow and pressure output Saginaw P pumps made because of the hydroboost brakes. The winch will be plumbed in series along with your brakes and power steering pump between the hydroboost and your steering box. Your...
How did you plumb it up? If you screwed up and plumbed it to the injection pump return, or in some other way that would put back pressure on the return it would run as you described.
You can pull it apart with basic tools and measure the roller to roller dimension, then set it back to something more appropriate for a 6.2 NA (I have the dimensions written down at home). It isn't that hard, but you should make up a holding plate to bolt the pump to (or an old engine block...
Drop the pan and go treasure hunting? In all honesty the only transmission I've ever worked on was a 700r4, but if you do drop the pan at least you will be able to take a look.
The pictures show stamped centers, which result in 3.5" backspacing. They are the easiest ones to do, and the ones in the photos are now on a buddies M1008. The stamped centers can be found from a few diffrent vendors (trail worthy fab is one), they are 1/4" thick steel. They are about $60.00...
I can get the weight in a day if no one else chimes in.
Is there any reason why you don't want to re-center instead of running spacers? It is pretty easy to do. I've done one set with stamped centers, with less than .025" runout. I'm doing a second set with rougue fab centers to get 5.4" offset.
Yes. You need to be careful not to jam the shutoff solenoid arm into the metering valve blocking it open (think runaway engine).
Pull the cover off the pump and swap the solenoid. You'll want to be careful not to scar up the aluminum when removing the old dielectric gaskets where the studs...
I don't a run a shim in the front. I only have about 3.5" of lift. The front end has about 8 degrees positive caster in stock form. I wouldn't rotate it in the negative direction more than three degrees from stock keeping it around 5 degrees positive
I wouldn't mess with the front at all. If you want to spend a bunch of money you could cut and clock your knuckles, but that is a lot of trouble. Changing your front pinion angle without correcting caster will not wear out your tires, however it will cause death wobble and probably make your...
1) Yes, where fuel leaks out, air can leak in.
2) Yes, but I think it is more normal for them to leak when cold.
3) No, they are viton, and complete rebuild kits can be found for less than $30.00.
Also keep it in mind if you pull the throttle shaft to replace the seal it is critical to make a...
You would have to pull the pump apart and measure the roller to roller dimension on the rotor. It isn't that hard to do, but it does require having a few special tools. One is a Kent Moore J-29601, also a 1-2" mircometer and a plate to bolt the pump to. The other issue is that Stanadyne is...
I'd scour every craigslist ad and pick-n-pull first... But I think you could make something that would work just fine. Buy the two brackets you have shown and the HMMWV link. https://www.real4wd.com/zedSuite/catalog/partdetail.aspx?partno=12339149
Straighten (and later shorten) the link, use...
Governor flex ring failure in the injection pump?
Injection pump check valve sticking or clogged?
Return fuel line or hose pinched, swollen or clogged?
Maybe pull the top off the pump and have a look...
If the flex ring had come apart bad things can happen, including plastic chunks...
