I would like to thank the DOD, The US Army, and lastly...

Congrats Buckmaw on the new acquisition! Enjoy it now before GL sends out a letter stating that they mistakenly let that one loose, and that you should return it to the depot... 'Tanner'

Engine oil mythology debunked, and ZDP content

Those of us that participate in the air-cooled VW & Porsche engine community & build engines have had flat tappet cam wear issues typically attributed to a lessening of ZDDP in the oils... it isn't anecdotal - I just looked at a Type 4 VW/Porsche motor Wednesday that had no more than 10 hours on...

three prong female cannon plug for an MRE heater

The MS p/n as shown above - MS3106F-16-10S - would come in OD Cad Green. The picture on Digikey's website appears Black... the newer nomenclature on the part should read 'JAN MS3106F-16-10S' - the US added the JAN prefix in an attempt to stop the offshore clones - Tanner

three prong female cannon plug for an MRE heater

Bjorn - If you order the connector under the p/n MS3106A-16-10S that you reference above from Digi Key, you'll receive a connector & standard "A-style" end bell, but will not get a cable clamp on the rear. You'll have to order a cable clamp separately. See left photo for MS3106A-16-10S (has 3...

three prong female cannon plug for an MRE heater

If you decide to change the original connector and use a different connector, look for a contact rating per pin of at least 23 amps max... this is what the 12ga. contacts in the 3-contact connector were tested to. Tanner

What makes an ambulance an RV?

Joe - talk to Cabell Garbee about this; he has mentioned to me in the past that NC requires a fixed sink (IIRC) to be mounted in the body to claim it as an RV; might be similar in SC? 'Tanner'

three prong female cannon plug for an MRE heater

Lance - I'm no expert on connectors, but have been doing this for about 6 years now - Look at http://www.peigenesis.com/pdfs/amphcsg/amphcsg41.pdf - this will show you how to order the connector under an MS prefix p/n: In the case of the 3-position MRE heater plug, you could use...

three prong female cannon plug for an MRE heater

Bjorn - No, you're good on the insert fitting in the shell - this is all from the MIL-DTL-5015 (MIL-C-5015) family, and they are intermountable & intermatable, but the 97 series doesn't offer any enviromental protection - Series 97 is a basic industrial use cheaper version of military version...

three prong female cannon plug for an MRE heater

Bjorn - Be aware that the Amphenol Series 97 connectors are the bottom-feeder, entry-level connector. They are not environmentally sealed against water or dirt & cannot be submerged. However, they are EMI/RFI shielded... go figure! Tanner

three prong female cannon plug for an MRE heater

I've rep'd connectors for Cannon & Amphenol... you cannot get inserts separately. Crimp contacts, however, can be bought separately. If you DO, somehow, manage to get ahold of inserts from someone, they are usually leftover parts that someone is trying to ditch. Inserts are glued into the...

US to transfer HMMWVS to Iraq

So - if Uncle Sam is giving 8,000 Hummers to Iraq, do 8,000 kisses go with it? Work with me here, fellas... Maybe they could be counted in the CARS (Cash for Clunkers) program & improve sales at the US imported car dealership? 'Tanner'

    lack of power

x3 on filter... Also, has the fuel been sitting in tank for a long time? I've had trouble in the past with algae in diesel fuel in my older Mercedes Benz diesel cars during hot months & prolonged sitting. Food for thought... 'Tanner'
