6.2 tough to start at higher elevation

I've also noticed that my fuel consumption is much greater. I'm only getting about 11-12 mpg as opposed to the 16mpg at sea level.

6.2 tough to start at higher elevation

I've noticed that my M1009 takes longer to start at higher elevations. I have to crank the engine longer and then it fires right up. I'm living at 6500' right now but when I get down to near sea level, the truck starts right up within seconds. Is there anything that can be done to compensate...

New alternator gen 1 Light still on ????

I always carry spare fusable links. Gotta love Chevy and fusable links. Let's create a weak point for no apparent reason! Duh! Speaking of weak points...whenever I had a Dodge, I made sure I carried a spare ballast resistor.

    Mighty Mite brake lights

Bjorn, I found this image on the net. This is the typical German switch which is used on Unimogs, Hanomags, MAN, Iltis, and more. Turn it clockwise for markers and lights. Unlock it by pushing in the slide at the bottom of the knob and turn it counter clockwise for blackout lights.

    Mighty Mite brake lights

Bjorn, The German switch is so simple. It's just one dial. Turn one way for service lights, the other for black outs. I've found the US switch to be very confusing.

    Mighty Mite brake lights

Joe, I took a quick look at the switch. It seems to be ok. I haven't had time to crawl under and really check it out. However, it looks like that is actuated hydraulically? If so, it can explain why they aren't working. One of my front brakes is leaking. Thanks again for the photo.

Kids BB guns and my buddys CUCV!

I would call the police and at least report it. This way it is documented in case something happens again.

New alternator gen 1 Light still on ????

RE: Re: RE: New alternator gen 1 Light still on ???? Check your connections to the alternator. It could be as simple as a loose terminal post on the alternator. I had this happen to mine and it was a fifty cent post that had to be replaced. Any loose connection will cause a spark and corrode...

    Lowes paint match

Why are you guys still using Aervoe? Everything I've painted with Aervoe has turned gray and looks like sh*t. I can't say this enough, "I'LL NEVER USE AERVOE AGAIN!!!"

    Bridge plate cover?

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Bridge plate cover? Bjorn, The plate actually has a little pocket behind it to store the camo cover.

Frame-up restoration... er, unibody-up restoration done.

Looks great! I'll have to check it out next time I am in SLC.

    Bridge plate cover?

RE: Re: RE: Bridge plate cover? My Unimog had a flourescent orange safety placard that had a rubberized camo cover. It had a drawstring around it so you could wrap the placard and tie the cover tight around it.

    Mighty Mite with Arctic Top?

Well, I tried to make the top work but it's just a little too big to make it happen, unless I want it to look like a hack job. Looks like it's going back on the M38A1.

    Mighty Mite brake lights

Joe, Can you take a photo of your brake light line and post it here? I looked and I don't have a switch near the drums. I'm not sure which wire would be for the brakes. Many thanks!

Mighty Mite Spare Tire Rack: part needed

Can someone take a picture of the bracket that holds the tire onto the tire rack? I don't seem to have one. Is it the same as an M38A1? Thanks, Mike Pop

    Mike Pop...question...

Ok...I finally was able to get pictures and a high speed internect connection to upload them. For those of you who did not see this camper at Aberdeen in 2003 and are too impatient to wait a few days for pics...here you go. This is a 1969 Unimog radio box off of a Unimog 404. I mounted it on...

    Mighty Mite brake lights

I'm not too crazy about the US military light switch. After owning a couple Unimogs, the German stuff is so much easier.
