    Starter 12v or 24v ?

$150 for the correct new 24 volt starter is not crazy money. It would be much easier to just install the correct part, with no need to start cutting, splicing, removing stock parts. In the end, the truck will be more original, and the value will be higher. Put two identical condition Military...

    Motorcycle - unknown type

Here's a link to pics of my former Dnepr. It was a special police motorcycle, so it was higher quality, then bought by a company that imported them into the US. Photo Sharing by MyPhotoAlbum :: rolling livestock photos :: Neval badged Dnepr. Sadly no longer with me.

    Motorcycle - unknown type

It is a 1990's Ural 650 model. They are a blast to ride. Because it may be military production, it 'should' be a little better than the civilian versions of the same era. The best made Russian and Ukraine made bikes were made during the Cold War...when they were expected to defend their...

    unemployed need work

Some possibilities: Sell excess items you don't need on Ebay. (Short term fix) Run free ads (Craigslist, local small papers) looking for cars, motorcycles, tractors or other motorized stuff that doesn't run or needs work. You may pick some up cheap or free and fix them, and re-sell them (On...

    Another weird dash noise

Recently when starting my M1008, it starts fine, but about 20 or 30 seconds after it starts, and has been idling, I hear a momentary chattering noise in the dash. It seems to be near the steering column maybe? It lasts just for a second or so, and then stops. Any thoughts as to what it might be...

    Price on your SF-97?

The SF-97 I got with my truck is from DRMS to Government Liquidators. The selling price is $78.15. What's up with that? I also have the registration and bill of sale from the former owner to me, so the SF-97 is just a memento now. The price makes me wonder though! The truck runs and drives and...

CUCV vs excursion, F350, or other pick up for bug out and snow vehicle.

Gas stations may be closed in times of natural or man-made disasters, but most homes in New England have oil heat and at least a half a tank of home heating oil. Maybe a hand operated pump and fuel cans should be in the equipment list?

    well... shes dead.

Sounds like you could be back on the road without too much hassle and expense. If you sell it, you will miss it, and if you get another, you will have to go through fixing all the bugs on that one.... At least with your truck, you know what you have. Proceed with calmness.....no rash...

Attention!! Please use caution when driving vehicles home from auction!

Why I am glad it was trailered. My new to me M1008 sounded good, drove around the block nicely...But I paid extra to have it trailered the 125 miles to my house. Good thing! On my first drive over a mile, it started leaking coolant at a fairly fast rate. It turned out to be a simple fix, but If...

    Look at a M1008...

My experience has been that Motor Vehicle departments only accept paperwork that is state produced, which shows an unbroken trail of ownership from day one, to you. An example might be an SF97 from Gov to him. There is no place on it for a second assignment of ownership to you, so you would...

    Charging mystery

I had a similar problem, but on a later model Chevy....my 1999 diesel Suburban. It turned out to be the smaller red wire on the positive battery cable that went to a junction box near the firewall. At the box, the connecting nut was loose. As soon as I tightened it, all my electrical troubles...

    M1008 in action in Sweden

Check this M1008 doing some real off-road work. Pretty impressive, even if it is slightly modified. H.

    Patch or replace panels?

The only real rust work I need to do on my new M1008 is the inner fender wells behind the front tires (What makes them go bad there?) Should I patch in some sheet metal, or is it better to replace the whole inner fender? Where is a good source for inner fenders.....preferably NOT made offshore...

    Strange clicking in dash?

It turned out to be..... The parking brake release lever. At certain speeds, it just starts jumping when truck hits bumps. Solutions (Other than not hitting bumps)?

    Strange clicking in dash?

Took the new M1008 for a ride this evening, and when going over bumps, there is a strange clicking in the dash near my left leg. It is semi-regular, almost sounds like a toy clicker. I thought it was some kind of a breaker or a relay, but it was too clear and sharp. As I went to lock the...

    New truck.....First M1008 scare

Now that my new M1008 is home, I was happily checking fluids, checking tire pressure...taking short hops around the neighborhood.....and there it was, coolant dripping off the back of the engine onto the driveway! Ahhhhh! I turns out to be leaking from the base-plate that the coolant temp...

    M1008 delivered

Well, it is finally here. It probably looks better in the pictures, but it is pretty solid, and everything seems to work. Two out of three family members love it. Guess which one doesn't?

    Tan paint question

Thanks for the tips. Paint codes welcome. As far as keeping co-workers happy.....it makes life easier. My command car is green, and I think the M1008 looks good in tan, so that's my main reason for color choice. I have my armed forces posters displayed on my classroom window, with no rumblings...

    Tan paint question

The paint on my soon-to-arrive M1008 is pretty nasty. It looks like it was painted with a cat on a stick. After a lot of searching previous posts on paint, I am still needing some tips. I like the look of the tan paint that the Desert Shield/Desert Storm trucks wore. As a shop teacher, I think...
