You never know when a 5 ton comes in handy. A neighbor boy came up on the farm and talked about studying for the CDL. So I said get in and started up Sandy the 5 ton and showed him the brakes and gave him a little road trip and then pulled into our 10 acre hay field and called out Chinese Fire...
There are lots of builds with deuce trucks which will give some ideas. I figure the top is probably the hardest to fabricate. Most builds use stock doors for the second set.
If you go with lower height tires you will kill road speed which is about 60 MPH . Mark
I would keep it stock and get used to 40mph in the slow lane. I think some one made higher gears for the axles if you want a little speed. The sedan delivery style is rare and I have only seen one out in a car lot in all my snooping. I figure the modern GM axles are too wide for the body. Axles...
Welcome from Wild Wonderful West Virginia!!! Good to have you aboard the site. Be careful with your recovery, pretrip your green iron ,checking fluids, rubber brakes and lights. I really like steering and stopping on things I drive especially about 14,000 pounds of US Iron! Remember these...
I would suggest a short local run to get everything to get up to temperature then check fluid levels, seals, drivability, tire condition ,top speed. A shake down might turn up any show stoppers to be found. Good luck and be safe.
Does right and left turn signals share the same flasher unit? If so, problem in wiring or turn switch. Can you jump power to turn signal circuit and bypass lever turn signal switch? If light works and stays on something wrong in turn signal hand switch. Those are my first tests that come to...
Welcome from Wild Wonderful West Virginia! Glad you found the site. Is your rig a prototype bobbed deuce? Not many full size blazers left here as rust moths ate them up long ago . Have fun. Mark
Welcome fellow mountaineer! I have 86 Chevy C30 4x4 , a deuce and 5 ton . I do not see much advantage to a bobbed deuce over a M1008 except for a couple inches of ground clearance, and taller tires, but you give up power steering and good power brakes. The Chevy can find parts anywhere where...
I was figuring some fairly rust free body parts to cure the rocker panel swiss cheese I have now. I was if necessary getting a WV salvage title for my combo truck idea.
You are loading the pump/alternator causing the belt to slip while the motor is trying to turn the unit. Some squeaking is normal....like cutting steering to limit and hold pressure on wheel......alternator squeaks at start up with low battery. New belt and correct tension will minimize noise...
I bid but did not do any good. Why in the world did they wedge truck side to side touching? I figured to let tires low on opposite side of parked trucks next to me, and pull truck out and air up neighbor's tires. How would you pull one out without greasing the sides?
I would post a thread with your air/12v supply so everyone could see it. It could be built with wheels or a slot to use a hand truck to tote it around . Mark
The oil test kit is a take home deal where you draw a oil sample into a bottle with a hose on a syringe and mail the sample in for analysis. The hose goes down the dip stick tube. Mark
Sojouner I like your set up. Does the compressor have a crankcase for oil? You have a compact outfit for sure. You are only missing an arbor for a grind wheel and wire brush ! Your set up reminds me of the old antique engine powered line shafts that powered multiple tools from one engine. I will...
There is room for everyone to have the green iron of his choice in the drive way ( if no HOA) . It is like the antique car shows, some guys with big bucks have the shiny new cars with better running gear and paint than original..... and they look down at the rat roder who uses leftovers to build...
Some times fuel systems will drain back towards the tank and you have to crank the engine a lot to get new fuel to the carb. Have you tried a cold start after you have filled the carb with a squirt gun or bottle into the carb vent tube or put some fuel into the carb throat and then start. If...
Did you check the old oil for weight or thickness when drained? Could the old oil been old or broke down and acting as a thicker weight oil cutting down burning oil from a worn engine? Maybe the new oil acts thinner and therefore is being burnt by the engine past worn oil control rings? What...
My Hatz engine is a one cylinder that resembles a small Briggs and Straton air cooled engine with a starter attached. It is supposed to be Navy surplus off a sub? I will try to pull a picture of it on the site. It is more than you want to carry. I think it would turn a 35 amp GM alternator...
Good Recovery!!! You need to take on a load of something to sell or eat to Alaska , Do a Coors beer run or 2x4's or something to trade at home and help on fuel. I know a fellow who went from West Virginia to Florida and picked up a load of green tomatoes and trucked them home and sold them all...
