On most of my military trailers, I've added an off road driving light that is activated when I put the truck in reverse. It works out quite well especially since one of my trailers is 32' long.
I'm making my 16th trip from NJ to NV, this time in an M1009. I've done it five times in my Unimog, three in a Mitsubishi FM, two in a moving truck, and the rest in a pickup. It's a long an boring ride along I-70 but this time I am taking I-80 and making a pit stop in Wyoming for a couple...
Hey! I thrive on the trash that is left in the desert and beleive me, there is a ton of it! I find stuff that is 75-100 years old, mostly scrap metal which I bring home and weld into sculptures.
As I heard about how to tow an M105 behind a deuce, I would imagine it would be the same for your...
Paul,
Unfortunately, the tranny took a dump...again. My M1009 is getting a replacement as I type. I'll have it back tomorrow and ready for the convoy. I'll take pics when I get it.
You can see the bumper in person during the convoy! See you in Aberdeen!
Don't you just hate the cheezy rear bumper on an M1009? Well, I do. So I purchased an M1008 step bumper and put it on my M1009. It took quite a bit of figuring, head scratching, steel cutting, and a little welding but I got it on and it looks great! If anyone is curious as to how to do it, I...
Brian,
I am 6'2" and am quite comfy in my U1300L. The cab is completely different than the older style Mogs and is built more like a truck where you sit upright with plenty of head and arm room.

IMO, European mv's are far superior in comfort and engineering than US mv's. I've owned both.

Bjorn,
The U1300L can carry a 2 ton payload. I've had 1.5 pallets of sod in my Mog and it did just fine but they were a bit top heavy and because of the flexible suspension, it exaggerated the side to side movement around turns.
Mike
If you gents ever get a chance, you are welcome to the biggest European invasion in August...Northwest Mogfest. We usually have a turnout of 75-100 vehicles including Mogs, Pinzgauers, Halflingers, Volvo's, and VW's. It's the largest Mog event and a lot of fun.

If you didn't see the posting about making a dolly, check out this link to Cabell's site: http://www.garbee.net/~cabell/mikepop/mikepop%20004.jpg
I made a dolly by using a fifth wheel, an M105 trailer, some 1/2" steel plates, and some 3/4" bolts. I was able to tow an M118 that I picked up...
David,
Have you completed building your dolly? I made the one that Cabell posted out of an M105 frame. I added 1/2" steel plating to the frame for strength. I bolted and welded the fifth wheel onto that. If you need more photos, I can send you some. I used the dolly to pick up an M118...
Ever wonder what would happen if you merged a generator trailer with an M118 trailer?
You would get something like this: http://new.photos.yahoo.com/junormaneureka/album/576460762329178706/photo/294928803405786824/16
I converted this trailer to a bumper pulled unit by adding the tongue from...
I've had excellent experience since I purchased my Mog from Sean at Eurotruck Importers. Scott Ingham at Expedition Imports is also a good guy and great to deal with when I am on the West Coast. As a person who has logged three cross country trips on my Unimog, I cannot say enough good things...

I recently purchased an M1009 and have driven it for about 2,500 miles
with no problems. All of a sudden today, I heard a whining noise and
then the transmission started slipping. The whining noise sounded more like a fan belt and got louder at higher rpm's. I inspected the belts and found...
I think the idea of a Western Serial is a great one! We have already had Dave McConnell join us several times and although he drives his civilian Durango, he has enjoyed the convoy every time. Dave currently lives in Michigan.
Please make sure you post your thought to me directly about routes...
Bjorn,
I would stay away from Aervoe. You saw my trailers, the gray ones? They were painted with Aervoe and within two years time, they turned gray. I removed a wheel well and where the sun didn't get to the paint, the color was fine. Aervoe is a very disappointing product.
