If you really want to scare the crap out of your classmates, buy a Unimog! I always try to park mine next to the Hummers at the ritzy malls. It makes them look like Matchbox cars.
By the way, I love my M1009!
Has anyone done a tranny swap from the TH400 to a 700R4? There is a guy near me who is parting out two civi Blazers and they both have the 700R4 transmissions.
Thanks!

I wouldn't trust the shackles for lifting or pulling. They aren't held on by much and I've seen warnings saying not to lift the vehicle by the shackles. I believe the shackles are really for only securing the truck to a pallet or deck.

Mick,
I emailed Rick Thiers in Pennsylvania about your brackets. I gave him your email address. He said he has some lying around and will email you. If you don't hear from him, contact him at: rick@mvsalesandhardware.com
Good luck,

I have two engine heads for sale. I think they may have been redone but I am not sure. One of them may be the high performance head. If interested, I can email you photos. Asking $75 each. Located in NJ.
Come and get them before they go to the scrap yard!

I like the Tappan Zee better myself. But I would avoid it on Sunday. Remember, the weekenders are heading home on Sundays. The NJTP will most likely have some sort of an accident and be stopped for miles on any given Sunday. You do know that the Garden State Parkway is closed to trucks?
Mike
Will,
I'm not a big fan of the GWB. There is always traffic in NY. What day are you traveling? I think a weekend would be good for NJ (except Sunday, all the New Yorkers are heading home) but you will most likely hit a lot of traffic on the GWB on a weekend.
Mike
Will,
For travleing through NJ:
You should be ok on the NJ Turnpike if it is early in the morning, right after sunrise. It's probably the only time that road doesn't have any traffic. I don't recommend it any other time while in a deuce. Alternate northern routes instead of the NJTP are...
Devin,
Congrats on owning a Mog! There are things you can do to learn about your Mog:
1. Get on the Mog mailing list: http://tx4x4.com/mog.html You will find tons of information from Mog owners.
2. Don't go to Freightliner or Mercedes for parts. They won't have a clue as to what you are...
Also note that the trailer that Cabell has is a lowered deck height with wheel wells. Most of the M1061 trailers have a higher deck height. I modified this before I sold it to Cabell by lowering the wheel wells. They used to be 12" high.

I've found the step bumper to be much more functional than the stock bumper. I can easily stand on it and reach the roof of the M1009. Also, it sits a little higher and when towing my 3/4 ton trailers, the trailers will sit more level.
Mike Pop
List,
I've done two step bumper modifications to my M1009 and my friend Paul Taylor's. It's not too difficult but you do need to posess some welding and cutting torch skills. If anyone is interested, I can email pics and instructions on how to do it.

Well, I've cancelled my trip. I've decided to stay in NJ and build my business here. There's just more money and opportunities than where I am in Nevada. Besides, there's lots more OD Iron on the east too!
I'll probably make a short run at the end of June to get supplies from Nevada. I...
It depends on what model trailer you are looking at. If it's an M105, you can't give those away on the east coast. Yet, on the west coast they go for anywhere from $800-$1500. On the east, expect to pay less than $200. Of course it depends on condition and if there are bows, racks, and...

If any of you are interested in purchasing this CUCV, the pictures make it look better than it actually is. This thing is a total rust bucket and...
I'll sell you a completely rebuilt TH400 if you want. My tranny in the M1009 crapped out so I put in a used one from an M1008. That too crapped out after a month of use. I had both of them rebuilt and only need one.
I'm sure someone coming to Aberdeen can deliver it back to you.
Pictures along the way? Ugh. I've made this trip too many times for it to be interesting enough to stop and take pictures! Besides, this isn't a pleasure trip. I need to get out to Wyoming first and join my girlfriend who is flying out there. She's into wild horses and photographs them...
