    MEP 003A Oil..

15W 40 is the way to go, all year. I use Dello 400. Anything less then zero, I put heat on them - even if they will start. This goes for any engines that I have. Cold starts are hard on them - not just the engine, but extended grinding on the starters too, etc. Once the engine starts and...

Thermostats and their temp rating vs. heaters

The noticeable heat at you heater comes from the top of your heat range. You can't trust the readings on your gauges!. Use something like and inferred thermometer to see what you have. I Always run here, the hottest thermostat I can get - especially on a diesel. They get tired and usually...

    Patching a Vinyl Canvas Cover

The commercial truck companies have the same problems with their tarps. Check with them. Otherwise, a glue/adhesive like barge cement that stays pliable, is what you are looking for. The good glue will partially melt the patch and the base fabric together. Those corners are always a...

    Garwood roller fairlead

You can weld it with aluminum stick electrode, or TIG. Either way, it is a large component - you will have to pre-heat it!

    MEP-002 rough running

Sticking valves/not completely closing. It misses several firing strokes, then the valves close, too much fuel, and it detonates. My biggest mechanic lesson when I was a kid - my pickup was missing and the old timer said to check the spark, fuel and air. I said I did! He said, "then it...

    Chains vs. Singles

In a lot of areas, when running duals, they Must be by law, on all tires. They are called "three railers". The ones on just the outside are or can be dangerous! On hard pack, the outside chain digs out, just a little, The smooth inside tire holds the outside one up, so it can't get another...

    MEP-002 rough running

If its doing the spark knock thing, its because there is, at least periodically, too much fuel. Like it builds up (because its not firing, then when it does fire, there is too much. Maybe two things: one of both valves sticking open... doesn't fire, then they start working again. Check to see...

    Chains vs. Singles

Wouldn't go anywhere, without them! They don't do you much good, hanging in the barn. Chains trump any tires, dual or single, with any tread design. A loaded truck with chains, trumps any unloaded truck. Having a load makes a tremendous difference.

    Installing new winch cable

The only thing thing I would add to the above, is that if you can find a tree uphill from the truck, then you can just use the weight of the truck for the drag, and not have to ride the brakes. New line runs on nice and even. Putting it on with just hand pressure works too. The new stuff...

    Exhaust tip suggestions

I just used the original piece that was on there. About any tractor/farm equipment dealer will have a flapper. Also, so will the heavy truck store, along with the exhaust pipe bends, etc., for other modifications. I never have worried about water getting past the flapper on my tractors.

MEP-003 utility outlet has no power....

If you only have 120 V between L1 & L3, the switch just to the left of the circuit breaker, under the cover, is probably set at ! Phase/120V. You should be able to switch it to 1 Phase, 120V/240V. When switched to the 240V between L1 & L3. Or 120V between L1 & LO, and 120V between L3 & LO.

Police car spotlight on a Deuce

I found one on Ebay with the flat perpendicular mount, meant to go through the roof. Don't have it mounted yet. Have one on my M211. I think the best universal place to mount them is in the center of the cab roof, about 10 to 12" back from the wind shield. When its placed there, the driver...

M871 Flatbed Semi Trailer Ft.Sill to New Mexico

I planned ahead too, when I bought a MEP-003A/M116A2 trailer, but it still turned out to be a long drive. A different type of trailer too. I pulled it as soon as the EUC cleared - once home, I got the cleared tags & title. It was pulled under the radar screen. That is something different...

    Wrecker Vice Repair/Rework

Vises are like Vise Grips. The only thing better then a good vise is two of them. I think my favorite is the Charles Parker Vise. Columbia, is another good old time US brand.

    Snatch Blocks

For winch line, you want 6x19. Six major strands, made up with 19 small wires. That is standard. Many other configurations. What you get is something with the capacity for abrasion. Heavy Equipment/Rigging store. Be sitting down when you price it.

    Need advise asap

Maybe I'm inclined to think that Hannah is/was legit! The world is full of Kids today that are very accustomed to instant gratification. What she supposedly paid for the truck is not much compared to the 4 wheelers and snow machines most own. Lots of Folks only worry about the "here & now"...

    Stuck Budd Nut

They are worth about $500, when you don't have one. It happens, Usually, because the outer nut is stuck on the inner (inner is loose on stud/not tight enough), and when you start to undo the outer, it further loosens the inner.
