The big question is, Where is the slip yoke? Is it fully extended or fully compressed? Better make shure you have room both ways so you dont run into problems.
Like was said, Dissasemble the joints, bolt the yokes on and mesure the distance from the centers of the u-joint holes with them...

axles- all chevy srw 1-tons 77-91 used the same (except ratios)
engine- you want a 92-93 pump with a VERY late "optimizer" block & heads, Late or...
Ok, So I accuired a couple of 4bt's with the GM th400's behind them. Both run great (less than 70k on each) and I would like to put one in my dads 1009 as his 6.2 hates to start. Has anyone on here done this yet? I saved all of the engine mounts from the p-vans they where in. I am just curious...
More power than what? a 6bt and 6ct will out muscle that old ntc 250.
I guess I should re-word, Both 6 B&C series are capable of more power than the ntc 250. Personaly I think the 6b would be a little small for a 5 ton though. The 6c though.......oh buddy.
Ok, got a few more minutes to work on BB. Biult a new pto shaft as some how they bent the other one (dunno if it was GL or not) got the pto cleaned & shimmed up on the new trans. She works.
