Found this sitting on the side of the road.....

Sounds like an interesting story, David. I think you should write it out as a picture book for diehard MV fans. Did the PM get her pregnant? What's the kid going to look like? Was he a big, burly Prime Mover, or just a little wishedhewas?

    Dauphin Island PD

looks like--- 42 3BDE or 42 380E. That'd be like the 42nd regiment of the 3rd brigade (MPs or Infantry) or 42nd regiment of the 380th Engineer Brigade, something close to that, IF I'm reading the numbers right. One of the research gurus may be able to track unit lineage and find if there are...

Midland, MI. & Petoskey, MI. 5/31

Sorry, Boib. I didn't take my camera to the Wall in Petoskey. Was there to help set up and put a a tent for the Point Man Ministries, then our Post did the opening flag raising. Hopefully Lane or Dave P will post some soon. A nice group of trucks up there when I took the tent down today on...

    Trip to Shirleys Surplus...

On that ignition lock---most of the deuces I drove in the Guard had them, we just never used them. Had enough trouble hanging on to the keys for the chain locks, LOL. Never could get the Supply guy to understand the deuce takes 4 locks with the same key, or however many it calls for in the...

Commercial Tractor with a Military Trailer

business name Looking at the paperwork, I remember now that we had to do it in a business name, could not rent the commercial rig as an individual. BUT, she did not flinch when she looked at my license that only shows "Chauffeur", not CDL. I did have a TIP (temporary Instruction permit and...

Commercial Tractor with a Military Trailer

It'll work When I bought a similar trailer in IL, I rented a Ryder single axle tractor. Worked great. We found that the county I got it from had already installed a cobbled up civvy light connector. Not the best but it worked. DaveP did have a set of lights and long cord to put on if we'd...

What does CTIS offer that you can't do "by hand"?

That's what they told me Yep. I never saw. Never even heard of anyone who had really experienced it. BUT, they told me that's why the "max speed 45 mph" label was on the dash when I picked it up. "They" said that under panic braking without ABS, the 900 series truck would nose over. The...

    New M818 in yard.

Actually, most guard units aren't given the time to work on serious PM on a weekend. We were lucky if we got any time during the annual training. Mission completion is the goal. If I've got troops coming in to camp for the weekend at 1AM, up at 5 for hauling troopies to the range on an all...

What does CTIS offer that you can't do "by hand"?

ours worked great In my guard unit, the 900 series 5 tons with CTIS had the CTIS disabled when I first got there because of problems with the brake system which would cause the truck to flip nose over. Once the trucks were set with ABS, the CTIS was fixed. In our training, we emphasized...

Which US MVs have locking diffs?

The M915 line haul tractor has a "locker" for the tandems to keep them turning together, but not a true locking diff. It's not intended as an off road truck. The M939 series switch on the dash was to engage the front axle, nothing more. CTIS has no bearing on locking diffs, it's only for the...

    I'm coonfuuused.......

RE: I One other thing you can try on the data plates is to rub over the numbers with a black sharpie marker, then wipe the excess off. Sometimes that puts enough ink in the engravings to make them easier to read.

    How many dueces

I like Jason's idea, even though I don't have my deuce tractor anymore. Still, are we talkin' 2 1/2 ton trucks or just the M35 series here? or including the gassers? What about the GMC's? Does the CCKW series count? All these are classed as 2 1/2 ton trucks.
