Problem spin off oil filter adapter

With a paper gasket, the problem could very well be the shrinkage of the aluminum vs cast iron. Aluminum expands/contracts: 0.0000123 inches/inch-degree F (12.3 micro-inches) Cast iron expands/contracts: 0.0000059 inches/inch-degree F (5.9 micro-inches) The difference is: 0.0000064...

    M35A2 vs A3

My octogenarian mother still drives a manual steering car. If you understand the fact that you must have the vehicle moving to steer it, you will get along just fine. No great amount of strength is required while tooling down the road, but off road (or extreme on road conditions) is a...

    M35A2 vs A3

Safety statistics from the era show that yes, most of us survived, but an appalling number didn't. In the 70's, more people died in cars and trucks each year than US soldiers in the entire Viet Nam war. Our average yearly death toll on the nations roads is 42116. The statistics are that you...

    M35A2 vs A3

It is really easy to find out if you have hearing loss. Go to any Costco, and take their free hearing screening test. If you routinely drive in a car with the window down, you will have damaged the hearing in that ear significantly just from the wind noise. You will be amazed at how much...

Out with the old - in with the new!

I was thinking of the Wiki that is already part of the SS website. Wiki's pages are made to be easily locked so that the content cannot be changed, if that is desired. My idea was to (with the blessing of the management) build up yet another Wiki page that had a list of all of the TM's. Each...

    M35A2 vs A3

When I was a kid, it seriously hurt my ears when my dad ran the mower, or used a power saw, or drill. As an adult, I have run the exact same mowers, saws and drills that my dad used, and they don't seem so loud. THEY HAVEN'T GOTTEN ANY QUIETER, I am going deaf! Hearing loss is a long gradual...

    M35A2 vs A3

Kids generally don't know what can hurt them... as far as they know, they are immortal... Parents are put on this earth to protect, and educate kids about dangers. The noise level in a deuce will quickly deafen anyone in the cab. Hearing protection is a must. Smashing your head against the...

    Cry Baby Neighbors

Most game does if you don't remove all of the fat, and use herbs and spices to mask and flavor the taste. Generally American tastes are accustomed to farm raised beef, pork and poultry. Venison, possum, squirrel, rabbit, and all of the fowl, add a host of new smells and tastes, and require...

Out with the old - in with the new!

Me too! Stuff the manuals in a directory on some site with good bandwidth, and tell me where they are, and I will have their links up on a SS wiki page in a couple of afternoons. Being a wiki, the manuals can be sorted and organized in any way you want. If the way I do it doesn't please you...

    Cry Baby Neighbors

Many of the things on my list are fine and dandy if it is you, or someone you love, doing it at a time that you think is a good time. The problem is when it is someone you don't much care for doing it at a time you don't think is such a good time: Canon on the 4th of July is downright...

    Cry Baby Neighbors

Bear in mind that town ordinances do have an important job when people live close together: They help to keep the peace. I suspect that a neighbor could do something that would make it miserable for you to live in your neighborhood. Some examples: o Rock and roll party every night until...

    injection pump?

If you mistakenly installed the IP off one tooth in the retarded direction, the fuel will be injected as the piston is going down, and the air is rapidly cooling. The engine won't run, but it will spew unburned fuel (white smoke) out the stack. -Chuck

Out with the old - in with the new!

It would seem to me that all of the TM's could quite nicely be put together into a Wiki page full of links to TM manuals. That would allow you to very simply host them on the current site. -Chuck

winch level wind on a deuce?

If you hold the rope by the hook, and look at the way the strands twist, you will notice that they either twist clockwise, or counter-clockwise. Here is a PS article that talks about the situation: http://old.steelsoldiers.com/albums/album28/ps184_p58_59_wire_rope.jpg -Chuck

    winch and shear pins, ugh!!!

One advantage that electric winches have over direct drive PTO driven winches is they smoothly slow down when they are overloaded. A slow, but smooth pull can work when a unyielding steady tug won't. The slow pull gives the mud a chance to ooze out of the way at its own pace. The hard steady...

winch level wind on a deuce?

There is another issue, the direction of the twist of the rope. If the rope twists the wrong way for the direction the winch turns, you will never get it to lay smoothly. The TM that discusses rigging tells how to make sure you use the right twist rope on the winch. -Chuck

    Filter housing question

Not all filters are meant for all applications. If you took your WMO and ran it through that filter, very quickly you would find the filter was clogged tight. If you are bound and determined to use a 1 micron yarn filter, make sure that you stage a 40 micron, a 20 micron and a 5 micron first...

    winch and shear pins, ugh!!!

There are several alloys that would do a good job. The most probable are: 2024T361, 2014T6 or T651. All have a 42ksi shear strength. It could also be: T2024T3, T4, or T361. They have a shear strength of 41ksi. The best 6061 alloy is T6, and it withstands a grand total of 30ksi.... not...

    yellow brake fluid ?

Silicone DOT5 brake fluid is supposed to be purple. The purple dye is somewhat unstable, and frequently fades to a yellow color. DOT5.1, which is just a modified form of DOT3, is clear. There is a big difference! -Chuck
