Well... The search is over!
I didn't end up buying a Deuce. Emailed a couple craigslisters about them, but got no replies. I ended up picking up a 5 ton (M54A2 variant) in Brownsville PA and driving it the 14+ hours back to Worcester MA this weekend.
Coming back up I84 I lost the belt to...
No real experience (yet) and no spare parts, but I'm a professional electrical engineer... so if you have electrical troubles, I can probably figure it out after a bit of head scratching.
Call 774 922 2854 (cell), ask for Ken and say you're from SteelSoldiers
I'm right in Worcester but may be...
I would have done it with my 91 Jeep Comanche, but then again, I had owned a Cherokee for a year when I got it and I've basically learned the drivetrain inside and out since buying it. I have owned the Comanche for 5 months now and was the previous owner's mechanic for 5-6 months prior to that...
An A3 would be awesome, but I've never seen one that wasn't wayyyyyy out of my price range.
Makes sense. Doesn't need to be 100% rust free, I just don't want one like my first car, with football sized holes in the floor and part of the frame rotted away aua still working on fixing that...
I'd prefer one with a winch, hardtop, and heater; the cargo cover is not something I care that much about since I can pick one up easily afterwards myself. Any of those are optional, I really have no idea how to find parts for these yet. I'd rank the importance of those options as hardtop...
This is my worries right here... I don't have as many spare Deuce parts (don't have any in fact) as I do spare Jeep parts! I'd show up and pick up a non running Jeep any day of the week because I have nearly a whole spare jeep worth of parts I would be bringing. I've wanted a Deuce for years...
Agreed, doing brake lines right is only marginally more expensive than doing them cheap.
Brake fluid's up to you. I just want you to do the lines in such a way that the fluid you choose will remain inside them
Thanks all!
Darn! Just curious, how much is the going rate for one in OK shape around here? I saw someone selling em for 4k asking price on CL, but that seems a bit steep, I'd rather pick one up for ~1500-2k and fix it myself.
Ahhh... thanks. I've been using GL mostly because I already had an...
I stand corrected on the sludge forming issue.
As for the seals - good to know that DOT 3 does not (apparently) harm seals in M35 brake systems. I'll probably use it simply because it means I can keep one type of brake fluid on hand for all my vehicles.
That, I'm not sure of. I've always been extremely careful to avoid mixing the two - nearly put the wrong one in my first jeep when I rebuilt the brakes though!
I'm still not sure if you need to replace all the rubber seals in your brake system or not. Hopefully DOT 3 doesn't damage DOT 5...
Because DOT 3 and DOT 5 are not the same chemical. Synthetic or not it will not change the fact that they are different chemically and will not behave well when mixed.
Figure it's like oil and water... doesn't matter if you boil or filter the water, it still aint mixing with the oil.
Synthetic just tells how the chemical was made - if it was man created instead of distilled from some naturally occurring source, it is synthetic. Think of synthetic vs non synthetic as electric vs non electric musical instruments - you can have an electric or non electric guitar and you can...
X3 on that! I know that DOT 5 in a DOT 3 system will ruin all the seals because they are dissolved by oil based fluids, don't know if putting DOT 3 in a DOT 5 system will do the same thing though. Anyone know for sure?
Oh... my addiction started long ago  I really like strong, capable vehicles. Looking forward to owning one that can carry any one of my other vehicles while towing another!
I don't have a camera right now because it got stolen, but rest assured I will find a way to take pictures if I...
Hi all...
Forget how I found the site, probably Google, but I've wanted to buy an M35 for years now. Hopefully will be managing to get one from Fort Meade (though I hear they commonly have rust issues here) soon!
I've got plenty of probably-stupid, probably-common questions... this is likely...
Sadly. It's actually fairly easy (at least in massachusetts) to determine the actual rules of a HOA, I was looking at one place that looked nice and looked up the title/other paperwork at the registry of deeds. When they split the lots out to build the development, they attach the rules to the...
Wow, they don't like looking at a truck but they like looking at garbage all over the yard I guess.
I say leave the garbage, if you get a complaint, note that apparently the same people complaining about the truck think garbage looks great and that neither will be going anywhere till they pick...
