Thanks for the advice Ray. I ended up using a real fine brush and touching up the areas. Looked like CRAP, so I took a rag with mineral spirits on it and let it almost dry out, then rubbed over the areas. This looks better, but now those areas have a whitish tinge to them. Hopefully it will look...
According to the MVPA Events calendar, the Denton, NC Steel Soldiers rally is set for April 11-13th this year, although many show up on the 10th. It will be held at Denton Farmpark
Here's the links to the 2012 and 2013 threads...
Glad to hear you're gonna make it Cabell. We just got the axel back under the deuce last night, so he (my brother) said he was going to do everything he can to get it blasted and painted before the rally. Not completely done bobbing it yet - still have to weld the tailgate section back on and...
The ignite can be retrofitted to the m38a1 distributor - I have a writeup on how to do it on my blog http://wilfreeman.wordpress.com . I installed mine back in April - working great ever since.
I've been thinking about either doing a hybrid waterproof wire to civi plug conversion. I have an old set of wires without insulation I could use for this. I dont "show" the Jeep, so it wouldn't be a big deal on that end. The other option would be to get a set of wires with boots that fit...
Yep - that's why I am asking so many questions. I saw one blow up on a friend years ago in Auto Mechanics at school - been weary about working on them ever since!
I am thinking about doing the 2 battery minders also. I did see some 24v Solargizers on ePay yesterday for $45 too though - that...
yeah, and a wrench touching a ring and then touching a starter +
post makes a nice spark and burn too!
So, let me get this straight before I try it. I can leave the batteries fully connected, as long as the switch is off. I connect the charger to the + and - of the first battery and charge...
You don't have to seperate the batteries to charge them with a 12v charger? Man, I'm still learning new stuff on here daily! Do you have to unhook the positive and ground wires from the truck?
I thought that might be the better way to go, but just wanted to get a little input first. I can get the course thread stuff from Tractor Supply - would have to order the fine thread or pay the big bucks at Fastenal. Choices, choices!
I am getting ready to get started on mine. I finally have all of the big parts together, now I am looking at the smaller things. For those of you that used front deuce springs and hangers, what size bolts did you use to mount them?
Here are a few other question:
1) As best as I can measure...
I have some real light scratches (they are really only scuff marks) on my M38a1. It is painted 24087 OD. I tried buffing them with a soft cloth. I didn't want to try anything else until I consulted with the forum. Has anybody had success using any other methods?
You know I'll be there - should have the Deuce and the Jeep this time! I will be visiting Jim's place in the next few weeks, so maybe they will have a date by then - I would guess it will be around the same time (first or second weekend in April - 2012 was first weekend, 2013 was second...
