Thanks for the help jeepsinker! Sometimes it just takes someone with a little more experience in a certain area to give you the needed confidence to try new things!
If the GA rally wasn't a month away, I would wait and buy the parts from those guys, but I want to go ahead and get her straight...
GOOD NEWS!
I went to Sears and bought a new multimeter and a good set of test leads with alligator clips. I came home and hooked them up to the alternator output post and a decent ground and fired her up. The volt gauge on the dash showed in the yellow, so I killed the master switch and turned...
Yep, I'm getting 35.6v at the batteries. I was hoping the volt gauge was the problem, but that's not the way my luck runs - this truck is fighting me every step of the way so far! Not a good start for me with the "Big Trucks", but I'm still hopeful that she will become my bestest friend, LOL!
Thanks again for the info. I guess I'll try adjusting while running now that I know I should have a couple of minutes to play around with it! I also have a reason to buy a new multimeter since mine doesn't have alligator clips. I know I could just buy new leads or the clips, but then I wouldn't...
So you can't run the alternator while it's not hooked to the batteries? That would be nice! I was wondering how long I could run it with it overcharging like that.
Thanks for the idea jeepsinker. I went back out and made sure the wires were solidly attached to the switch, but I don't have a spare switch to test with. I did fire the truck up to see if it changed anything after I played with the wires though - no change. Had to cut it off and back on - then...
OK, it looks like the original post is dead, since the OP never followed up with the solution to his problem. Since this is sortof related to my problem, I am going to hijack this thread - unless that is a problem.
With that said, I will continue with my troubleshooting progress and continue...
The deuce won't make it this year Clinto - haven't had time to work on it much since I got it home. Haven't even called around to get it insured or even registered yet. You know you can drive the Jeep if you want to - just take it easy on her, she's an old woman!
Nothing wrong with that! If you don't enjoy it a little, you'll get burnt out on it like I did. I have done little to nothing on mine this summer either (or on the M100!). The GA rally is coming up very soon and I still have to adjust and reseal the rear end on mine + get my rebuilt carb on and...
Skid plate and crossmember are spoken for - thanks
Also want to add:
- 25A generator and regulator,
- Air cleaner w/ mushroom(has a small dent in it)
- Pedals
- Draglink
- Grill
- Maybe fender(s) have to check
Dismantling my m38a1 parts chassis. Axles, trans/transfer, pedal assembly, rear springs, skid plate and a cckw brush guard (and frame of course) are there. Possible delivery to the ga rally. Make an offer.
Hey guys. I am also having charging (not charging) problems. I bought the deuce last week knowing that it wasn't charging. Drove the truck home (about 40 miles) at night - lights were still bright when we got there. 2 days later the batteries weren't strong enough to start the truck. Anyway, I...
