Here in Ga it's the law to move out of the left lane so traffic is not impeded regardless of speed. It's helped a lot with traffic on the interstates, however there's more than a few that haven't gotten the message yet... and if I'm passing another vehicle in a M1008, they're driving too slow.
I see you're in Buchanan, Ga... you're not too far from me. I'm on the east side of Bowdon.
Lol, yeah it took mine a minute to get up to speed with the empty trailer. Once I got up to speed it maintained it with a lil more throttle than usual. I'm not planning on towing anything with the M1008...
FINALLY got the extended rear bumper with a recessed mount Warn XD9000 mounted to the M1008 today. Had to do a lil trimming on the bumper to make it fit, but now it's on there. All I have to do now is get it wired in. Btw, it took 4 grown men to pick up the bumper w/winch and move it to the rear...
The heaviest load I'm planning on pulling is a Kubota 3301 4wd with a front end loader and bush hog for maybe 2 miles.... lol. I'll use the 79 K20 with a 406 for longer trips.
Yes an electric brake controller is at the top of the list..... there's actually one in the truck that's not wired in...
Just curious how much weight y'all can safely pull with an M1008/28. I had to go pick up a 20ft steel trailer with a wood bed and while my truck isn't equipped for electric trailer brakes, I didn't notice any difference in stopping power. Take off speed was like a 3 legged turtle, but once I...
Cool.... thx for the responses.
I figgered my mileage was about as good as it's going to get considering the gearing, tires and minor lift. It's still much better fuel mileage than the 406sbc in my 79K20... lol
..... or lack of :D
Just curious what some of y'all are getting for fuel mileage from your CUCV. My M1008 with 35's gets 17-18mpg on the highway running 55-57mph. Stop n go driving while running errands it just drinks fuel... 10-11mpg. That sound normal?
I agree with the Duramax being a much better engine... my 04 GMC 2500 Duramax truck moves on down the road with very little right foot on the loud pedal. Having said that, I **** sure do not want that much power in a 1985 M1008. I'd wind up wrapping it around a tree. I'll stick with my factory...
315 75 16 KM2's on 16x8 wheels... perfect fit on my M1008. Nitto Terra Grappler 275 85 16's on 16x6.5 wheels on my 6000lb 79 K20 and they're not as solid as I wish they were. They're too soft for my liking. 16x8 wheels should cure it..
I ran BFG KM2 33x10.5x15 on a 74 K10. Not much noise on the road and never an issue off road. I rolled them over plenty of rocks without getting a flat tire.
Fixed two very annoying vibrating noises at idle: air cleaner top and the fuel tank shield were slightly loose. Has anyone ever noticed the 6.2 is loud... lol.
Also had to fix a reoccurring fuel line leak on an injector. Hopefully cleaning all of the grime off helped seal it for good....
My M1008 and 79 K20 flatbed truck both have brand new 4 leaf factory type springs. They're a little stiff at first, but once the break in they're comfortable. Tire size also plays a role in ride comfort.....
Check the harmonic balancer to make sure the rubber isn't dried up and falling apart.....
I run 35's on my M1008.... 55-57 on the highway is attainable without buzzing the motor too high.
Wheel Vintiques 82 series 16x8 with a neutral 4in backspace with 35's. Also a 4 leaf factory type springs in the front.... I can run 55-57 on the highway. Good enough for an old truck that's not meant for highway use.
