i would say that 45 for a water loaded duece is not so bad. 56 is "flying" for a duece, almost take off speed.
you could change the tires and effectlively increase your "overdrive", but these are barely 150 hp motors, so i am guessing you are not hitting the rev limiter.
if you think that...

up at the top of the page is a tab that says resources. under that is technical manuals.
btw, congrats on the...
just a word of caution. if you thin your oil out you will quickly loose the lubrication and end up with a siezed motor. i had a small hole in a piston on a duece i recovered and in less than 200 miles got to meet mr tow truck.
mine is the hood itself rattling in its hinges and against the rear supports. freaked me out so much when i first heard it, i was certain that i had "blown chunks". seems to settle down once i am traveling down the road.
killer price for leds
these guys always have good geek stuff
http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/LBR-24P/24-WHITE-LED-LIGHT-STRIP-24VDC/1.html
$7.75 for a 24" 24 led strip that runs on 24 volts is pretty hard to beat
air pack
not sure exactly what you mean by hard peddle, but there is an error in the tm re: the airpack rebuild, and if you make the mistake, the peddle will be very hard AND THE TRUCK MAY OR MAY NOT stop. (WHICH IS BAD!)
if the problem seems to come and go, but mostly be there, the new...
i had to submit a towing bill for my duece, even before i had actually insured it ( recovery fun). state farm paid it no problemo. but i do believe that it was somehow at my agents discression. the bill was $350 or so. to add comp and collision was like an extra $20 a year over straight liablity.
mseriesrebuild,
you might want to search out the recovery4X4 pressure bleeder. it uses a garden sprayer, and costs about $12 total from lowes or home depot. i built my version of the bleeder, and had the brakes completely bled in well under 30 minutes. there is no reason to bleed the brakes...
wrench
fwiw, because of the casting for the heads, there is no combination of normal wrenches and sockets that will get the heads off, and certainly not back on and torqued. i understand that the military one bends pretty easy. some on this site have made their own ( is will let them speak for...
i might be wrong here, but i cant think of anything on the 800 series trucks that requires eeeee-lectric to run. you can drag start them too if you have a big enough "dragger".
and bigger is always (usually) better
btw, it is not always the grounding straps that worry me, it is the tinfoil...
i was a com "geek" in the military. ft's post about tubes brought back a memory, one day in a discussion, we were all laughing that the russians (they were the bad guys then) used tubes in their field and mv com gear. until one guy said, "but what about emp ?".
"can you hear me now ?"
be safe
mine had simular symptoms, turned out to be the rubber hoses going to the tank switch was the problem. you rcan replace the hoses by just slitting the old ones at the connector and pushing new hose on (easier than a bunch of wrench work :))
are you sure it is "actively leaking"? i mean really, mv's drip, that's how you know they still have fluids in them. kinda like a wife, if they are nagging.......... :)
be safe and make sure the e-brake is working, it's alot better than nothing if there is a full on brake failure.
i just got a call from a friend who is in texarkana heading west with a BIG lowboy. he has hauled some dueces and 5 tons for me, anyone need something going west picked up or hauled?
he is very familiar with the whole gl pickup routine if that helps.
wrecker names
my 816 is named "homie", short for home wrecker.
it seems i neglected to mention the purchase to the "director of home happiness" before the purchase. silly me :)
ok, where oh where are the torque specs hidden
i am about to assemble the accessories of an ldt 465, and cant find the torque specs in any of the manuals.
i see the "generic ones" that relate bolt size to torque, but i am used to gas, where there is usually a table "component to torque" for...
ham radio
i loved my yaesu 757gxII hf transceiver. it was a great sized, kicked ass as a base or a mobile, and not too expensive. had a really nice general coverage reciever (and of course i am not advocating this), very easy to modify to talk darn near any band. with am, fm and both side bands...
