I provided very detailed info regarding the TV cable. This was a factory set-up, the transmission came attached to an engine. The adapter was longer than the one in the M1008
Did yours have an adapter between the transmission and the transfercase that was longer, like three inches longer?
I'm trying to figure out what caused mine to fail after it was working for 40 miles.
A quick Q.
Do the CUCV driveshafts work well with the longer 700R4 transmission?
Reason I ask, My "new" transmission was going down the road, then it wasn't. No idea what went out. Ordered a new Mad Dog Level 3 transmission as this has already been a 2 week ordeal.
I've a 700r4 in my truck. Thought I'd make a run down of it all.
It came from a diesel, so:
TV cable and bracket were there.
Torque converter was right.
Fly wheel was on donor engine. (You need the one for the 700R4). They look the same, they are not, the bolt holes to the torque converter...
Batteries, Battery cables, Battery clamps, grounds and connections at the buss bars. I really like to replace the cables w/ a heavier gauge, and use crimp on lugs that I also solder. I also buy the military battery clamps sold on the eebbaayy. I also use new star washers at the buss bars and...
Well, all told I have $150.00 into it. The turbo was $50.00, but I wanted the block and all the rest as well. A half tank of fuel and a day invested in the driving. I don't plan on using the block. I have a couple others from military vehicles that are not worn out.
Not sure that I'll ever even use it, but...
To good to pass up. Complete off a 6.5L missing only an exhaust V clamp and flange? (not sure I got the names right). Rotor is nice and smooth, no play. Included the shorty injectors and lines. No inj. pump however. Like I said, just to good to...
If I were running my 08 on highways like that, I'd be looking into some sort of overdrive. Sounds like you could use a fourth gear and different axle gearing. I generally keep mine at 55 and let people pass me. I can see on true interstate highways where that might not work so well.
Spend good money on your oil. Put in a coolant gauge. Check those hoses and belts and the radiator. Mine would do it, but, I didn't run extended lengths of time very often.
And, I had 3:08 gears in mine.
They need to sit on something. The little tabs in the trays can rub through and drain a cell. Had it happen. I built a tray out of pine scrap I had on hand. Each is in a tray, then in the pine, and strapped down.
I'll be trying an Autogauge 2" diesel tach soon. It has one hook-up for the alternator and the choice of 4, 6, or 8 cylinders. It also has a means of adjustment, but I haven't figured it out yet as the directions consisted of a couple very basic drawings. Only the best in cheapo...
