I have one spare antenna, the one in the pictures. I was going to clean it some more but have not worked on it in weeks. The one on my truck was new in the box and I did put silicone grease on it. I need to put silicone on the spare one to keep the halves from seizing before I get around...
What about cleaning the lower part (degreasing the recess) and cleaning the outside of the insert stuck to the upper part and using epoxy to attach the insert to the lower part of the antenna?
I am assuming that the insert attached to the upper part will screw down into the lower part.
That...
Assuming the one on the right is the upper half that is normal. Kind of a shallow corrugated thread stem on the upper half that screws into the lower half with a little bit of overlap on fiberglass shells.
How long did it run after you got it?
Is it possible someone put a standard grounded case alternator on the passenger side before you bought the truck?
The front battery is the main 12v battery. The second battery 'floats' 12V above the vehicle chassis and is used to provide a 24V starting system.
Anything connected to the positive and negative terminals of the second (back) battery will 'float' 12V above the chassis. If that equipment comes...

Thank you , that is very good advice.
Do not attempt to power a ham radio off the 12V bus on the firewall.

I powered my radios directly from the batteries using the existing ground conductor and a new fused #6 12V...
I shoulda put a smilie on it. :)
How are the batteries wired? Stock setup is in series. Front battery negative to the frame. Front battery positive to the rear battery negative. Rear battery positive to the top bus in one of your pictures. 24V nominal from that bus to the frame. There...
The gauge is not needed for the system to start run.
I highly recommend you undo whatever your mechanic did so that the system will be closer to stock then what it is now. People here will help you with a stock starting system but if it has been modified then you will be on your own.
That is...
