Hmm.. that's no good. Could be a spare or something.. hope so. Cause if that's your relay - that could be a problem. When you turn the key to "run" before starting, do both Gen Lights come on?
I'd just worry about uneven charging confusing the 12volt regulator.. sending more power to the first battery or something. I agree, it'd work.. but under heavy electrical load, weird things could happen.
Had to do the tranny pan on mine, I should do the engine oil pan too. If it's engine oil you're leaking, check out the lift pump.. if it isn't all the way on the block, it can actually leak oil. I guess it's push rod, cam lobe on crank, etc throw oil toward the pump while it spins. Some...
I have one 600 watt frost plug heater in each side. Both from Zerostart. $30 - $35 each. I'd replace the coolant for $25 while you're at it, instead of putting that old crap back in. I like the idea of a coolant filter. New thermostat ($12) is easy to do when the coolant is out too, just make...
I'm with the other guys.. You COULD use a 24volt on the passenger side and the stock 12volt on the driver side.. use the 24volt just for the 2 starting/glowplug batteries and add another small battery run off the 12volt alt just for turn signals, headlights, blowerfan and stuff. Run the 10 gauge...
Just so you know - if you go the new fuel lines route, you have to pull off the whole intake to run one to the IP. The fuel pump pushrod takes forever to line up to get the new pump in (took me 4 tries). Outside at -30*C = not fun. To put in a passenger side block heater, use the middle hole and...
Coldest mine ever started was -36*C. 2 glow plug cycles, pedal to the floor and a few short cranking sessions later - she started. No block heater, no nothing.
That, was stupid. Admittedly I didn't know any better, I had just got my M1009 and had never owned a diesel before.
Now that same...
It stands for crankcase depression regulator. Basically, it sucks the blowby out of your crankcase with a light vacuum into your intake (that's my understanding). When they don't work, your intake starts sucking oil through it, or your crankcase builds up pressure and leaks everywhere. The CDR...
I can't find a CDR valve anywhere.. not even a civvy one. Not on rockauto. Not at a GM dealer. Parts chains. Nowhere. Anyone still selling these things?
I removed the coolant Y-pipe (the thing with the thermostat in it, not sure what it's officially called) on my '86 M1009 to replace the gaskets, because they had started leaking pretty bad. To get stuff out of my way, I unhooked the hose leading from the oil filler neck to the CDR valve on the...
Thanks for all the input guys. I'm not too concerned about the cost of the electricity, power is cheap up here. I had a lower rad hose inline heater in this truck.. It didn't do nearly as good a job as the frost plug heater I have now (same wattage), but it was some foreign brand name. Maybe the...
Made lots of sense to me, Joey. See, when it's cold here.. the thermostat on my 600 watt heater never shuts off (if it has a thermostat.. it might just be "always on". I don't know myself.) I can see that it's sucking lots of power if I check it with a meter. So, hopefully if there are 2 of...
This is how I mounted mine, incase you're lookin for ideas. I'd call 1 1/2" angle iron secure for a radio :). Only necessary if you do stupid things, like me
Wow guys, thanks a ton for all the help. Jwaller - your situation is basically what I'm hoping for :). 1stDeuce - I agree that even heat would be best. Since I've already put one heater in the rearmost drivers side, I think frontmost passenger side would be best for even heating (so long as I...
I couldn't find any 1000w ones either.. but with 2 heaters on opposite corners of the engine totaling 1200w - I bet I'd be better off than if I had one 1000w. When you say L/S, do you mean the drivers side? (Sorry, just wanna make sure) I thought the instructions I got with my block heater said...
Hey guys,
I've looked all over the site (so I think.. I'm computer stupid) and I couldn't find anything too specific about multiple block heaters.
Here's the deal:
I have an '86 M1009 with a stock 6.2. I put in a 600 watt freeze plug heater last year, it works great until it gets stupid cold...
