Hey guys,
My oil pan leaks quite a bit, so I'll be pulling it off to put on a new gasket this summer. What else should I do while I've got the oil out and the pan off? I've got some ideas, please let me know what you think about them (possible/worth it?) and maybe add some of your own ideas...
I know this thread is long dead, but I wanted to give anyone interested an update. I still have my original 600 watt heater in the drivers side rearmost hole. Now I also have a 600 watt heater in the passenger side middle hole. I had to remove the starter support bracket to put it in, but the...
It says somewhere on the engine if it's a C code diesel or a J code diesel. J code = CUCV. C code = Civvy. The civvy ones have slightly different heads - less horsepower. supposedly less reliable also. I heard the rocker arms are held on with metal on the J codes and plastic bits on the C codes...
You don't have to replace the push rod. But, if you're unlucky like me, you knock the push rod out of where it is supposed to sit within the engine the first 3 times you put the new pump on :P no worries, you're all good. Good job!
I like it. Looks Nice :) I have a Stanadyne FM100 on mine - it's great. Spin on / spin in is the way to go. FYI Squidlo, I think an FM100 filter head takes the stock gm filter on newer diesels (92 - 93). That's why I went with one, so if I'm stranded in the middle of nowhere in need of a filter...
I had to install my lift pump 4 times before it would work. The pushrod (1/2"ish shaft) that rides on the pump's arm has to be in exactly the right place (in the engine) or the whole thing doesn't work. I almost filled the hole in the side of the block with grease so the shaft would stay put...
Well, first of all, I'd hope the tips haven't made it all the way to the pistons. Hopefully they're just sitting in the pre-chambers. I know it's a pain, but I imagine you could remove the fuel injectors on those two cylinders and pull the tips out through the injector holes. Good luck.
Yeah, I'd say you're shorting out somewhere.. I'd check the relay/solenoid, cause I think each glowplug has it's own fuseable link (wire that I think acts like a fuse).
I have a whole Stanadyne model 80 off my truck for parts. I have that sensor too. You probably wouldn't want it on your truck, cause i had the same problem and screwed a big bolt in that little hole, but you can have parts off it if you like. Emailing me would be best - jmargraf@hotmail.com. I...
I have a Stanadyne FM 100 on mine (new high flow filter). I have no problems. Are you sure it's fuel? I had smoke like that when my CDR valve got stuck open (brass round thing on passenger side valve cover). Or... I sure hope not... But, in changing the filter, maybe some crap got in your fuel...
Has it always been like that? maybe it's just wired wrong. I'd hook a meter that you know works up to the wires behind yours to make sure it's defective before tossing it.
Thanks for the info :-D. We can get home heating oil here too, but I've only seen some once and it looked like dark diesel. That's not to say that it may be died red here too, I just haven't seen it.
A common thing I've heard of up here to dodge taxes is to convert older carbed vehicles to run...
My fuel is blue cause I just dumped a whole bunch of TC-W3 (low soot) two stroke oil in it:-D. Wonder if that could get me into trouble where you guys are.. Here in Manitoba, Canada - I've never even heard of someone having their fuel checked by the police.
I second that - make sure they know the passenger side alt must have isolated ground. When you get it back, might be worth checking for continuity between the neg output terminal and the alt's case with a multimeter - just to be sure.
Agreed CombatMech, the wiring diagrams are great.. other stuff, not so much.
WoodyNla, you might want to look up how normal chevy 3 and 4 wire alternators work if you are having trouble. I think the chevys work the same as almost all car alternators, and generally have lots of info online...
My Gen1 light faintly comes on too.. but I can't tell unless I'm i the middle of nowhere and all the other lights are off. My understanding is that the lights in the dash actually supply the current needed to excite the alternator. When my Gen1 light burnt out, I had to rev the engine to get...
I knew the frost plug holes were for getting the sand out after casting.. but I wouldn't have thought that some sand would still be in there when the engine was finished. I guess the OEMs don't do the best job of cleaning them out.. that makes alot of sense, cause there was tons of sand in that...
