Worst case scenario, I'd use an Aux. oil cooler infront of the rad with some modification to the lines. I've seen them on sale for like $50 with some generic lines. Good Luck!
When i thought my heater core went, I cut up an old bike frame (3/4" ish tube) with a hack saw and used 3" of it, rammed the heater hoses on both ends and used the hose clamps from the heater core to keep the hoses on. Then copper-wired it to the fender. It turns out the hose had a hole in it...
If you go the 6.2 route, before you put the engine in your truck, drop the oil pan and look for main bearing web cracks. I understand that one of the weaknesses of the 6.2 is broken bearing webs, eventually leading to busted crankshafts. Often it's caused by a rotted harmonic balancer. If you do...
My M1009 had 67,000 miles when I got her and she smoked like the video. Smokes about the same 7,000 miles later. Smoked like a train when the CDR stuck open and she sucked tons of oil mist out of the crankcase into the intake... Was so bad that standing at the drivers door I could barely see the...
Well, before I pull a tranny I like to drop the pan and change the fluid and filter. Then try it again. Even if your tranny fluid looks new, sometimes this has worked wonders for me. And I really dislike pulling a transmission. Just a thought. I've "fixed" many a transmission and many a steering...
If it's low on coolant, hardly any goes through the heater core. Then the heat is pretty unnoticable. Had that happen to me every 2 weeks when my rad leaked. I have all new hoses, new t-stat, and a new heater core. (the last owner put in the heater core - it's even aluminum. I thought that was...
Unscrewing the vacuum modulator screw one turn did nothing for me. I drove down the road, stopping after cycling through the gears and then getting out, climbing under and unscrewing another turn.. By the time I was done I took the screw right out. Now It almost shifts right. That is with all...
Put me down for a calender! Respect to you sir for both of your awesome accomplishments. Don't let the negative comments about the flag get to you. That flag stands for freedom, and if we can't wrap a beautiful girl in the flag of the country we love, what freedom do we have?[thumbzup]
Chevy converters are usually pretty solid, but my buddy had an old mercedes that did exactly the same thing. Pretty sure it turned out to be the converter. We ended up scraping the whole car - and he bought a chevy truck :) it's still going strong.
I've thought about this too, except with a third alternator cause I like my 24volt setup. Well Done! No idea on the ground thing... is the regulator out of play? I could think of why that would cause problems, but as I understand it - a weldernator has no regulator anymore. Good Luck!
Also, I've read that there is some kinda rod piece that must go between the hydrobooster and the master cylinder.. Apparently the new/rebuilt ones usually don't come with this so you have to take it off your old one. Since your brakes clearly work, I imagine you must have that piece in there...
I love my CUCV but none of my friends would understand. It's loud as h3ll. Smells like diesel (I love the way it smells) and needs a little more maintenance than a newer vehicle. Also, doesn't ride very nice (but I LOVE the way mine rides). If you can handle a Deuce, CUCV's wouldn't be any more...
If you're looking for easier starting, I'd replace the fuel filter with a spin on (mine is a stanadyne Model FM100) and replace your mechanical fuel pump with one made after 1989. GM changed the fuel pumps to eliminate vent holes that allowed the pump to drain fuel back into the tank after...
I like BFG A/T 33 x 10.5 R15 too. Exactly the same tires I have on my M1009!! I love them. But I paid $1300 for them, (installed on rims and balanced, I put them on the truck). Stupid Canadian gov.. everything is expensive up here. Another reason 10.5" width is great, is less surface area of...
I second that CDR valves are becoming harder to come by, at least in canada where GL is out of reach. Other than that, as said before - almost everything is the same as the civvy version. Maybe an extra 24 volt starter would be worth having. Those will probably go extinct in the next few years...
Most amazing build I have ever seen.. Even better than on tv. WOW. That's all I have to say. I wish to do HALF of this one day. Thanks for sharing this with everyone.
Check the purple wire with white strip at your new solenoid. Make sure ignition switch gives no power unless in "start" position. Ign switches can go bad.
