GL did not remove the data plates. The turning in unit did. As mentioned all the VIN/USA numbers are on the turn in paperwork and GL just copies the data. The turning in unit turned in the trailer with the VIN number that they wanted to get rid of, for whatever reason. Also when the GL folks...
Looks very nice. I like the deuce box on a M931A2 a little better than the standard 14 footer. Makes it look beefier. You have done a good job. Thanks for the pics.
With the fact that I left the exhaust as is my box will sit a little more to the rear. Looking at the side view the "laid...
On my truck I had to lower everything to just below the hard cab top. Got the height down to about 9' 10" (118 ") Pole barn has a 10' ceiling. Took a few inches out of the top exhaust pipe, lowered the air cleaner top cap, and removed the davit arm. Just how far do you want to lower the...
Looking good. Nice work. Can you get some pics tomorrow of the box from the side? I want to get a feel for the placement front to back. And a shot of the rear overhang in reference to the bumperetts. Looks by your picture of the front of the box that it is mounted pretty much in the same...
The M48, M275 and M221 2 1/2 ton tractors. were designed to pull a 6 ton trailer. The mentioned trailers about cover it. Most of the 6 ton trailers had only one axle, but there were a couple of trailers that had two axles. Another way to tell the right trailer is all came with 900x20 tires...
If you do a google search you can find the step for around $50 bucks or so. Or try this outfit and make your own.
I would go for #7386900. Or go for #7382501 and cut it in two pieces and you have two steps..........pretty cheap stuff
The piece of conveyor belt I got was a scrap one and cost...
Got the drivers side step done today. The shinny sheen on the paint is cause the CARC primer I use is not totally dry. Were I to do this again I would still use a belt mount. But rather than fabricate the step I would just buy this one. Probably would be cheaper in the long run. And I like...
GE I have not done the mod to the M931A2 yet, will start on it in the morning. The M8109 has been done for a couple of years so if you want closer up pics of it let me know.
Yep it is a problem for all of us old - short folks. I got a couple of Caterpillar heavy equipment steps a year ago or so and it is about time I put them on I guess. A flexible step is common on heavy equipment. These steps I have are mounted with two pieces of a heavy conveyor belt type of...
Welder has not got it done yet. He has had some family medical problems to deal with. Not a problem for me as I have been getting the truck ready to add a deuce cargo bed. Also cannot bug a person when they are doing if for free.
Sounds good. Good idea using the space under the box for storage. I do a lot of parades for the VFW and that space would be a good place to store a ladder. As most of the folks riding in the box are old farts like myself and a ladder is a necessity.
Very well done. I am following your enhancements as I am doing more or less the same thing to my M931A2. I am trying to center the deuce 12 foot box so the the shelter tie downs will be centered between the rear axles the same way as they are on a deuce. I have a set of rear bumperetts and...
Here is an old SS post on how the VINs were used on the M939, A1 and A2 series trucks. Just wish the author would have let us know where they were located on the frame etc..
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?47536-Deciphering-M939-series-Serial-Numbers
Were any of them A2s? Made by BMY? AM Generals are easy to find. I have always been able to find the chassis VINs on my M211s, M34s, M35s,M818s etc but this BMY booger is something different. First time in 54 years that I cannot find the darn chassis VIN. I am about ready to accept that...
That is exactly the kind of markings on my M931A2. Here is what is on my truck about 6 inches or so behind the steering box cover on the drivers side. The numbers are not even close to the data plate on the dash. The dash plate on the dash is the original I am sure. As I said earlier I have...
Good question. I have been looking for it also, can't find it on a M939A2 series. The M939 and M939A1s were made by AM General and those are as Mike said. But the M939A2s are made by BMY not AM General and I think they marched to a different drummer as far as location of the vehicle VINS. If...
