I have another thought. Why not try turning the engine over with the starter with no fuel so it doesn't start. See if you can hear the clacking with the engine turning over, but not firing. If you can hear the clacking you might be able to tell where it's coming from.
That makes three of us. I've been learning the hard way. Unfortunately, I don't have any flat ground. I'm in the mountains and 100% of my backhoe work with the FLU419 has been on inclines, some significant. Very scary!
I almost always end up hooking up the XM1061E1 I have by myself. You are absolutely right - it can be a real pain. I raise the trailer tongue and then back the truck up until the pintle hook is in the right position, but it is usually either left or right of where it needs to be. I have a...
For anyone wanting to install a cigar lighter limited to lighting cigars/cigarettes, the easiest thing is to simply install a 24 VDC lighter. Just make sure someone doesn't accidentally try to power a 12 VDC device from the lighter socket.
The 1061 trailers are even heavier if you have one that has the double tongues to facilitate being pulled by an M113 APC. I've pulled mine with an M35A2 and M35A3. I live in the mountains and the deuce struggles on the hills without any load in the truck or on the trailer. I definitely limit...
I have an XM1061E1 trailer. It is a fantastic trailer and I use it quite often. However, this is NOT a trailer to be pulled behind a light pickup truck! I like it because you can level the trailer into a very stable platform. You must have air or air over hydraulic brakes to pull it.
You can also pull the valve covers to see if any valves are stuck. On other suspect engines, I have pulled the valve covers and pounded on the rockers with a soft rubber mallet to see if the valves were stuck. They won't move much. If a valve doesn't move at all, don't try to turn the engine...
The main thing in my mind about buying a FLU419 is to make sure you look for a good one. This actually applies to any MV. Too many people decide they want something and jump at the first thing they see. If you see one that looks like crud on the outside, it is likely that it hasn't had the...
How long are you letting it run when you start it and you hear the clacking? Is the sound metallic in nature? Have you tried using a listening stick to try and tell where the clacking sound is actually coming from? Those genset have so much normal mechanical noise it may be difficult to...
The mice tend to get up behind the dash and nest and chew wires where it is difficult to see. Hopefully, you don't have that problem. In case you don't have a copy, I have attached a copy of the wiring schematic for the FLU419. I printed out a C-size copy and had it laminated.
I definitely agree with HDN regarding the floor mats. I get condensation under mine along with some rain penetration. I took my mats out and cleaned up any rust and painted the floor with Rustoleum rusty metal primer really thick and then with Gillespie 383 green that matched the CARC color...
The first thing to do for your instruments is to remove all fuses and clean the connectors. I used a dremel tool with a brass wire wheel to clean the contacts. I replaced 100% of my fuses with new fuses from EI. When I installed the new fuses, I coated with dielectric grease. All problems...
I'm about 23 miles north of Helen, just off US 76 and about 15 miles east of Hiawassee. You are correct, we are neighbors. If you are ever in this area, give me a shout and we can talk about FLU419s. Yours looks to be in good condition from your photo. Does it run well? Complete? Did you...
One problem I have with Kascar is the following statement on their website. Stuff like that does not help the MV hobby.
"Military vehicles are designed for rugged terrain use in adverse conditions and potential combat by the military. They are not D.O.T. approved for highway driving and should...
I definitely agree with the 2nd oil change. Since you are based in Iowa and cold weather, I believe a multi-viscosity oil is preferred, but the Tractor Supply SAE 30 should be OK for the first flush. Any water in the system should end up getting flushed to the bottom of the pan.
I use John Deere 15W-40 in deuces, the same as I use in my JD tractors. The Rotella is good oil and I use Rotella T3 15W-40 it in my MEP003A generator.
I'm in Georgia, but in the mountains. We get winter diesel here. The issue the fuel companies have, even in warm weather areas in the winter, is that trucks and cars can take on diesel fuel in warmer areas and then drive up into colder areas and have a problem.
Changing the subject, piston...
I've never seen it in the FLU419 manual to add gasoline to diesel fuel for winter. I've only seen where it says to use winter diesel vs summer diesel for winter conditions. I have seen where it was authorized to add a small amount of kerosene to summer diesel fuel for use in winter conditions...
