With the FPUs about to come up on the auction block, I think we'll start seeing more LVS's on SS in the next few months. I won't be one of the owners, but I hope that one of them will be within drooling distance of me!
I just took my new M923 for its first spin. I got it over a week ago, but I haven't had time to play with it on weekdays, and I did a bunch of little stuff to it first like fixing some air leaks behind the dash, installing the cargo cover kit, adjusting tire pressures, cleaning windows, and so...
By the way: After some searching around, I found a set of LVS TMs on Scribd. They're in the TM 08780B series. I was just interested in the crane stuff. One think I'd still like to see is the load chart for the Wajax/Palfinger PK19000 knuckleboom on the MK17 RBUs. It's not in the manual, which...
I've read that the front power units like to nosedive if you hit the brakes too hard. I gather that they're normally only moved around without a rear body unit at slow speed around the yard for maintenance purposes.
Easy solution, though... get a rear body unit to go along with it! I haven't...
Very good write-up! [thumbzup]
When I installed reverse lights in my HMMWV, I used the existing switch mounting point in the shifter assembly for the reverse switch, since some HMMWV variants had reverse lights. The HMMWV has a power feed to the horn that's switched on only in stop light and...
I would not consider taking my truck on the road with the buzzer disabled. If it were to get stuck on like in ratat98's 60 mile trip, it would be easy to pull over and unplug it temporarily, since it's accessible under the dash without any tools (that may not have been the case in the truck that...
I think that was me that mentioned 11 GPM. That's what I recall reading in the LVS truck manuals about the supply provided to their cranes, and I'm considering using one of their cranes for my knuckleboom conversion... even though the crane itself would eat up over half of my 5-ton's cargo...
I was even considering getting my hands on a set of the standard winch controls from an M925, but then I decided I'd rather use an air-shifted PTO.
I'm still thinking about putting in a governor, though... I like to over-complicate things. ;)
I have a number for a guy near me who I'll try calling:
Bob's Bee Farm and Swarm Rescue
951-377-4002
I got it from another one of the regulars at my local SBUX, who had a bee problem at home.
I'm contemplating how I'd like to add a knuckleboom crane to my new M923, and I'm thinking about the PTO and engine speed governor aspects at the moment.
My first inclination would be to add a PTO hydraulic pump to the PTO mount on the transmission. I think I'd like to use an air-shifted one...
I was just about to post a similar thread about my M923 when I saw this! I'll still go start my own thread since I'll be asking about a different truck, engine, transmission, etc., but I'll also be following your thread for any interesting insight. [thumbzup]
