    The Wrecker Bees are Back!

I eliminated the visible combs in those pictures, with no effect. As far as I can tell, they're mostly inside the turntable mechanism area, which is essentially a 1/4" thick welded steel box with the only access via those narrow gaps around the big gear that's visible. I don't have a second...

    what are these wires for

Excellent! You've narrowed down the problem to one of the 12V loads. The M1113-specific manuals appear to be restricted on LOGSA, but I think you'll find info on 4L80E-equipped HMMWVs in the regular M998 manuals. If all else fails, it'll be a matter of physically tracing where the 12V power...

    what are these wires for

Those wires with the yellow heat shrink appear to be connected to the 12V point between the batteries. Do you have the 4-speed 4L80E transmission? I don't have personal experience with them, but I seem to recall that their controller runs from the 12V tap in the HMMWVs. My HMMWV has the...

Do you need a CDL for a 5 ton

Is the horse really dead if it keeps jumping up and trying to eat our brains? :)

    My truck is on gl.

Well, since wreckerman won it, I guess I'm off the hook. ;)

Do you need a CDL for a 5 ton

That is not quite correct. GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) is the actual weight of a vehicle at any given point in time. GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) is the maximum allowable weight of the vehicle. So, the GVW of a non-overloaded M923 could be anywhere between 21,600 and 31,600, while its GVWR...

    unrelated hyperlinks

I don't see the links, either. I suspect they must get inserted somewhere between the SS server and your screen. Maybe by an intermediate server like your ISP, or maybe by software running on your computer. In any case, it seems like something that should be hunted down and exterminated, in my...

    unrelated hyperlinks

I have not noticed this. Are the hyperlinks being inserted server-side? Or are they links that members manually and deliberately linked to? I do run an ad blocker, but I don't know if it would strip things like that. I would most likely go non-linear if a favorite site such as SS started...

Do you need a CDL for a 5 ton

Is the requirement based on GVW or GVWR? The GVW (actual gross vehicle weight) of an unladen M9xx cargo truck is around 21k, but its GVWR (maximum rated gross vehicle weight) is around 31k. BTW, CA requires a CDL for un-bobbed deuces, even, due to their weight and third axle.

    Where are the Deuce's?

I'm happy that I had a chance to play around in the deuces-a-plenty era, getting my start before the GL era even. I'm also happy that the M939 series era is warming up, since I've wanted one for a long time, and I just got my chance to buy a very nice one at well below the market prices I've...

    The Wrecker Bees are Back!

Next, here are some pictures after I pulled off all of the removable floor plates, and just before my failed attempt to burn them out with a propane torch. Again, this was back in 2007. I melted/burned all of the visible honeycomb, but it didn't have any noticeable affect upon the presence of...

    The Wrecker Bees are Back!

I won't have a chance to take any new pictures of the 5-ton apiary until this weekend, but I found some pictures from back in 2007 (when the first family moved in) that I may not have posted before. First, here are some pictures in which some honeycomb is visible, from before I removed any floor...

    The Wrecker Bees are Back!

I'll try to do that. I never got around to reinstalling the floor plates that I removed last time I worked this problem. I have to hand it to those bees... they moved into an armored steel fortress! :)

    The Wrecker Bees are Back!

Getting the truck back is my primary goal. I'm willing to delay that for a while in order to save the bees, but a few months would be about the maximum. I'd prefer to avoid using poison if possible. If the bees can be persuaded to move into a different hive, then do you think the steam cleaner...

    The Wrecker Bees are Back!

I don't have suitable equipment to remove the boom and crane base. I want to use this wrecker to help me install a knuckleboom on my M923 at some point, and then sell the wrecker to somebody who can give it more time and attention than I can. I'll need to get the bees out before I can either use...

    The Wrecker Bees are Back!

If those sea bees would maintain the truck and take care of rigging, then they could stay! :)

    2012 vin info thread

My new M923 doesn't have its date of manufacturer stamped on its dataplates, which may have been replaced at time of overhaul. GL says it's a 1984 AM General truck, but I hope that you can verify that before I request my SF97. a. Serial number C52306860 b. Registration number NL0J3C c. NSN...

    My truck is on gl.

If 1) he wins his truck and 2) there's a PayPal account for the donation hat, then count me in for $250.

    The Wrecker Bees are Back!

I have a number for a local beekeeper. I'll give them a call before I try anything else. I didn't know that they'd carry poison to other hives! :( On a brighter note, the thriving colony inside my truck suggests that the poison is no longer active in there.

    The Wrecker Bees are Back!

Last time, one of the things that I tried without success was using one of those propane torches for weed burning to burn 'em out. They were too well entrenched inside inaccessible areas of the steel fortress of the truck bed for me to be able to do any good. I melted some exposed honeycomb, but...
