For folks who don't know the differences:
JPEG uses lossy compression. It can make small files, and it works nicely with photographs. However, it can do really bad things to things like line drawings; it doesn't deal well with sharp color transitions, and lines/text can get really blurry...
Ah, thanks for the info! Well, it's too bad that mine wasn't a full rebuild then. But it sure does look pretty, and it has 4 nice 6TMFs in it. I wish that they had put a hard top on mine. It does have new tires, too.
I'm not sure what you mean by "depot truck". Mine had an overhaul in 2009 at Red River Army Depot, and it doesn't appear to have been issued since then. It has no unit markings, and it came with the basic issue items in a wooden crate on the passenger's seat (WOOHOO!). Its original date was...
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Lifting the 12' shelter off the bed might not work with a straight boom, unless the boom and sling were both really long, and the boom could tilt up well past 45 degrees.
I don't know how to find a complete list. I went to LOGSA and entered a publication number of "MWO 9-2320-272" into the search page to find all of the documents whose pub. numbers started that way. That got me a list of all but one of the MWOs listed on my truck, plus some others that aren't...
I have the docs on checking for improperly installed ABS systems from that wonderful site already, and that's definitely on my list of things to inspect on my truck very soon!
Hmm, that approach to modifying the bed sounds interesting.
I'm not sure what my shelter weighs, since the dataplates indicate its weight back when it was packed full of radios, I think. I'd guess that if I could swing around 3,000 pounds or more at a radius of 10 feet, then I'd be in a happy...
My new M923 has five modification work orders (MWOs) listed on the door frame. I've identified all but one, and have downloaded the details of two of them from LOGSA. The remaining two are up on LOGSA, but are distribution codes b/c, so I can't download them. These are the MWOs listed on my...
The PK19000M I'm looking at on eBay is at $13,500. I haven't tried contacting the seller to see if he'll come down on the price, because I don't have the cash anyway... it'll take a couple months to get the M923 off my credit card before I even begin accumulating cash again! ;)
I haven't found...
Thanks! I missed an opportunity to bid on one of the batch of trailers in Barstow with either Grove cranes or Palfinger PK19000M knucklebooms on them a few years ago; I "accidentally" blew my budget on a pile of CUCVs the week before.
I see one of those PK19000M cranes for sale on eBay not too...
What do you think of the M977 crane vs. various knucklebooms? I just got my first M923, and I'm interested in making it into a crane truck. I haven't decided upon which crane to use, whether to keep the original bed or not, whether to cut and/or move the bed to accommodate the crane, and so forth.
I couldn't wait any longer to see what's in the wooden crate that was holding down the passenger seat. As I guessed, it contained the basic issue items (BII) for the truck: Tool bag, manual bag, a few hand tools, 8-ton hydraulic bottle jack, geared dual-wheel lug wrench with bars, chain hoist...
I strongly recommend that you inspect any items in person before bidding. Dealing with GL is always a bit of a gamble, but when you bid based only on the auction listing pictures, then it's a BIG gamble. Don't bid any more than you're willing to simply throw away if things don't work out well...
Yes, I did tell the towing company about the dirt roads, and I gave them the lest painful route to use (if they relied on a GPS map, it would get them into lots of trouble). I've had Landolls onto my property before; for that matter, my entire house came up that road in two pieces. I've also had...
