See if you can go over and watch them, seriously! I watched the guy doing my 1/2 ton change gears and learned how to set up new gears....And you can get that smell back - LOL!
GM does not offer it anymore as well. You might be able to find one at the junkyard although most are taking the pieces and having them welded back together. Some even add a little more meat to the part to make it stronger.
I looked into doing this at one point and time. It was not worth doing anything bigger than would fit in an old kitchen oven.

Down here in the South, all I have seen is a greenish-blue mix on the diesel, #2. I remember buying diesel up in the Northwest, in December and January, and it was a yellowish-orange color, could be it is #1 Diesel (wont gel, etc.). Only other color I've seen is Red, for offroad and marine.

I have seen posts with people taking off the old bracket and welding it back together and others taking a new (to them) bracket and reinforcing it with extra metal on the sides. This is a common breakage item.
