Using Chain-type Towbar Feet on Rockwell Axles

RE: Re: RE: Pictures of towbar feet Hmm, I don't think I'd use the chain clamps around the bumper instead of the axle. As I understand it, for a flat tow the tow bar would generally be attached to the bumper shackle mounts, and for a lifted tow with a military wrecker, the tow bar would be...

    Parting out M35A2C

I wish you were on the west coast. My dropside needs a set of troop seats. :(

    Suicide Budds?

RE: Re: RE: Suicide Budds? Here in southern California, I take all of my truck tires to Pete's Road Service. They do heavy trucks, construction equipment and so forth, and they don't even blink at a split rim. I'm surprised that a heavy truck shop would have any issue with deuce wheels. Edited...

Just Picked Up the M816 Wrecker!

The truck looks great! I wish my M543A2 looked even half that good! Do you know which specific kid(s) threw rocks at it? If so, I think it's time to have a talk with their parents about the cost of window glass. And if they don't take care of things, then it's time to call the police.

Hard Top Modification for M66 Ring Mount.

That could be the one. I think I'd remember the interior shot(s) better; I recall how the barrel was cut and tabbed over inside the cab, followed by lots of caulking. :) Hey, this thread reminded me of something I just saw over on the Saturn Surplus site...

Hard Top Modification for M66 Ring Mount.

Wasn't there a member's ride with the top few inches of a 55 gallon drum mounted through the hard top for this purpose? My memory says Wreckerman, but it's been getting increasingly flaky as the years go on. ;)

Siren and Light Controls in MP CUCV

Oh, now I see that those "winch" switch covers just have decals on them, and I found his list of standard decals. Hmm, I wonder if I can get a white-on-clear cartridge for my old P-Touch label printer?

Siren and Light Controls in MP CUCV

Hmm, there's some interesting stuff on that 12voltguy site. Thanks! His "WINCH" switch covers gave me an idea. I wonder if he can make me red safety covers with "LIGHT" and "SIREN" engraved on them? Thanks for the information on the 670th, too! The wire from the front red light ends at the...

Siren and Light Controls in MP CUCV

I think that it was marked military police, but those markings have been spray bombed over prior to release of the truck. On each front fender, there's a badge logo for the 670th Military Police Company. The logos look like they were hand-dawn with a marker!

    Radio Rack MT-6492 Scrap??

I'm trying to figure out which radio set this is part of, but I'm drawing a blank. Is there any more information on the dataplates? As a military radio collector, I have to say that it's definitely not scrap, even if I'm not the guy to give it a new home! ;)

Siren and Light Controls in MP CUCV

They didn't leave a flasher for me, but there's a clip installed under the hood that looks like the most likely place that they put the flasher. The light doesn't have a built-in flasher. Both the light and the siren still work. I tried them both last night (I wrapped electrical tape around the...

Siren and Light Controls in MP CUCV

One of my recently-acquired M1009 CUCVs (and my favorite, and the one I'm most likely to keep) was an Army military police truck. A plain red light behind the grille and a 24V mechanical siren under the front end are still present, but the wires were cut in the engine compartment, and the...

Military Mustang project, what color for the interior?

Definately the yellow zinc chromate! That stays with the theme of army truck on the outside and warbird on the inside.

    Using a Block Tester

RE: Re: RE: Using a Block Tester Thanks for the advice! I'll take a look underneath for leaks when it's light outside. I haven't noticed any carbon on the coolant or cap so far.

    Chirp in the engine

One of my new old CUCVs was making a fairly soft chirp/squeak at idle, and it turned out to have a missing vacuum plug. The sound was coming from there, and went away when I plugged the fitting. Your problem is more likely to be a belt or bearing, but I figured I'd throw this out there. May the...

    Using a Block Tester

RE: Re: RE: Using a Block Tester No gauge, unfortunately. Just idiot lights. Great, big 2" diameter idiot lights where there ought to be gauges. I plan to keep the truck mostly stock, but I'm tempted to add some more gauges to it.

    My Four (!) New CUCVs

I took the 1983 truck for a little spin on the dirt roads today. I didn't head out to the paved roads because it's not registered yet, and the lighting has some issues. I only got up to around 30MPH on the downhill plummets. It had no trouble clawing its way up the fairly steep hills, even...

    Using a Block Tester

Re: RE: Using a Block Tester I'll wear safety glasses and hum "Shake Hands with Danger"! [thumbzup]

    Using a Block Tester

I haven't seen oil on top of the coolant or coolant droplets on the dipstick, but I haven't run the engine yet. I tried to change the belts today (right alt belt is missing), but I got hung up on the PS pump belt for lack of a 15mm deep socket. I plan to pull the glow plugs before I crank it for...

    Using a Block Tester

One of my recently-acquired CUCVs has paperwork in the truck indicating that it has at least one blown head gasket. I bought a block tester kit at NAPA to help me figure out whether it really has a blown head gasket, or if that was just written on the paperwork to make the truck fail so that the...
