Even tho the pan was clean there was a lot of non magnetic metal in the oil filters. Have to find the source before I drive that far and just don't have the time this or next week.
I am sorry to say that my super awesome army truck has let me down. My wife and I will not make this years event.
Here a link to the story http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?109887-Change-my-oil-and-this-came-out-the-drain-plug
Pulled the valve covers today and everything looked good.
Then I finely cut open the oil filters. Those wix filter housings are tough. Found lots of very fine non magnetic metal.
So its time to pull the heads and tear it down. No rally for me this year.
I have tried to find a mechanical...
maybe. My tips get coked up from running only used oil. I find that after soaking then in carb dip and rinsing with brake clean 5 out of six work good with no dribbles. Have never tried to lap a dripping one as I have always had spare injectors. And now tips.
I bought one injector line and a...
They are so cheap that I bought a set to try. I set them at 3000 lb and they shoot two straight streams like the originals. So I bought 24 more for backups. I must admit I don't trust my used gauge.
Pulled the pan today and it was clean and so was the pickup screens. Everything came out when I drained the oil. Just the big pieces in the pictures. All the oil jets are there. No sign of anything beating against the crank or block. Liners all look good. Pressure relief spring is still in the...
That is a thought. Any one know the diameter of the inner valve spring? But I can"t see how it would escape the outer valve spring.
Also thanks for all the helpful tips. But I'm more after where a spring could be missing from and not affect the operation of the engine.
Cutting open oil filters...
After looking at it with a magnifying glass I can tell for sure its a spring, but from where?
Tomorrow I will cut apart the filters, But i did stick my finger in the drain hole and the bottom of the pan is clean. None of the silver sediment you get with sever damage. and no small particles just...
Yes still have good oil pressure. went through the tm and looked at all the drawings for springs about this size. That was the only one I saw that could make it into the pan.
It.s .080 wire and is hardened.
The one piece that is ground flat on the bottom looks like it would have been about 3/8" in diameter.
It looks like the remains of a very heavy spring.
It dose not have the square shape of a helicoil.
It is magnetic.
Changed my oil today and felt something hard go by my fingers as I pulled the drain plug.
I fished these pieces out of the drain pan. They came out of the front sump.
I am going on a 400 mile round trip in two weeks and am a little concerned.
Two of the pieces are flatten like the end of a...
I can't see a pony motor ever having enough hours on it to wear out a set of points. Unless they are broken or rusted through you should be able to clean and file them.
I would love to see a picture of them.
Also you can go to an auto parts store like a Napa or other independent store. You...
You need to pull the axle, then remove the bearing retainer nuts and then pull the hub assembly. The drum will come off with it.
When you assemble it you need to jam a piece of cork into the keyway to keep oil out of the bearings. I would replace the seals while I was there and pack the bearings.
That is almost true. Never rotate radials side to side. I have seen tires come apart in short order after doing so, although this is rare.
But rotating front to rear can have advantages.
One example. Dodge caravans tend to wear front tires unevenly on the out side edge. This will cause a...
