I was in the 9th ID, 15th Combat Engineers that deployed to Vietnam in June of '67. We had a mixture of old and new equipment. My M37 was a 1950 that had been rebuilt. We had an M109A3 (just like mine today) and it was a multifueler. We had 5 ton bridge trucks that were gassers. We lost 1/2 of...
Welcome, bro'. I'm a Western Slope native. My grandad arrived there in a covered wagon.
Somewhere up on Glade Park is a double bladed ax stuck in a tree about 7' up from circa 1960. I put it there to keep everyone else from tripping over it and that's where it got left. Once while deer...
The problem with using an old tube and bending it around to fit both sides of the FDC is that a 44 year old piece of plastic tubing is very brittle. Mine broke about the time it was at 180 degrees of bend. Even if I had managed to make it all the way to 270 degrees, it would have been fragile...
... but that's not my real problem. See this thread for the whole, longstory.

In short I've been having trouble with BAD performance on my deuce. First I downloaded the troubleshooting manual for the LDS-465-1 (my...
I see you found one at Memphis, but in case that doesn't work out, I'll pull it off a trailer brake assembly I have laying around. It's yours for the postage, or a cup of coffee if we ever meet.

I built up an M101A1 into a real nice trailer. It was missing the top, both wheels, 1 drum and the tongue.
I built a tongue from tube stock and put on a combination hitch.
I welded the front spindles from a '75 Bronco on the axle tubes so that I would have a 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern to match...
A friend is considering bidding on an '85 M1009 on Ebay. Everything looks good except I have a question about what looks like 2 alternators (see pictures). They don't look military to me. Do they look OK to you?
If you can discern the bumper numbers, try contacting the unit. It is a good likelihood that it is a National Guard truck. Most fed owned trucks don’t come back. Most NG units have a public relations office.
My truck had similar tags and I found out that it had belonged to the Arkansas NG...
Good advice about pulling all wheels and rebuilding everything, but in the short term (we seem to be working with a short term strategy in a lot of areas in this economy) check the brake adjustment. See the TM on how to do that. Excessive "run-out" on the shoes will cause you to need to pump...
OPCOM, You have medical insurance, don't you? I recently almost died from a sudden onset of diabetes because I didn't have the $$ to pay to see a doctor when I started having a whole list of seemingly unrelated symptoms.
Ok, mlwats1, can you give me a price on the turbo and everything I will need for the conversion? That will include everything from the aircleaner to the engine block. A turbo and a non-turbo have different manifolds.
Please keep in mind, I'm a poor out of work SOB on unemployment.

My suggestions:
1. Change out all the fuel filters; OD Iron has a set at a decent price. They can look good but be varnished over.
2. Check your in-tank fuel pump. MANY threads on it! In good, warm conditions
the IP can pull enough fuel to run, but may have serious problems in cold weather.
3. I...
I agree, but if you decide to pull it out, let me know what you want for it. I have an M101 with cut up wiring. I put all civilian lights and wiring, but would like to go back to military lights with LEDs (duel voltage). See Trucklite Military Rear LED Composite Lamp
