I've often wished that my M543A2 wrecker (part of the old multifuel 5-ton family) had air brakes with spring parking brakes, instead of air-over-hydraulic with a driveline brake. Yeah, I know that all of that air plumbing would be difficult, but I'm expecting to need to replace the air lines...
Re: RE: GL heads up.....
I'd suggest that they're both, but the concept that they could do two things with legendary puissance (or even borderline competence) is too fantastic to contemplate.
Now, where have I heard that barnacle comment before... ;)
I've had less trouble with GL than many of y'all have, but even so I'm just not interested in doing business with them. Even dealing directly with the federal government was less of a PITA. I don't bother to browse their listings any more, because they're not worth the hassle of dealing with IMHO.
I don't know if they were made as late as 1969, but the USMC did order up more M38A1 trucks in the 1960's. I have a 1964 M38A1 which was made on a USMC order. My understanding is that the Marine Corps didn't like the new M151 series MUTTs, so they ordered up new M38A1 trucks instead. So, maybe...
I think they're a bit too big for a flat rate box. They're bigger than they look in the pictures... those knobs are about the same size as gear shift knobs.
Congratulations on your new truck! I remember how excited I was when I got my HMMWV. I've always liked the look of the slant-back ones the best, but mine has never been in that configuration, and I've put enough effort into making it a proper shelter carrier that it'll probably stay that way...
I think that I have one of those controllers. I got it on eBay with thoughts of modifying my M543A2's crane controls for remote operation. I never knew what this controller went to, because it doesn't have any identifying markings on it.
I'd sure like to have the crane that goes with this...
Yes, it certainly is silly. Every time I've ever looked at deuce manuals at LOGSA, the -361-10 has been restricted (class C, if I recall correctly), and it appears that it still is. Maybe they figure that the enemy won't be able to drive our trucks without the manual to tell them about the funny...
I was looking on LOGSA the other day, and I discovered that the 361 manuals have been updated and consolidated. The -10 is still restricted (sigh). The -20 and -34 have been replaced with a 2-volume -24, and the -20P and -34P have been replaced with a -24P. I haven't had to use the new ones yet...
About four years ago, I won various items such as an M105A2 trailer, a couple of M103A3 genset trailers with 10kW gensets on them, and four 2.5-ton trucks in GL auctions. As is typical for GL, the paperwork accompanying them was thoroughly screwed up. Form 97's had registration numbers instead...
My haul included a big snatch block for my wrecker, a small chain hoist, some metal wheel chocks, some jack plates, a couple of air hoses, a shifter boot and a pile of sea container pin locks.
One of the 5-ton trucks there had one of the sling bars for crane lifting on it. I hadn't seen one of...
I've been looking for one of these for my M543A2 for years. I mostly want it for the sake of completeness, even though I just use my wrecker as a yard crane. I'd just as soon trade my whole wrecker for a suitable military crane with hydraulic outriggers and a boom that's controllable from the...
Re: RE: Re: RE: lds 427-2 runs on silicone but not diesel
Also, you should be able to hear the in-tank pump running with the accessory switch turned on and the low-air buzzer unplugged (the buzzer is loud enough to drown out the much quieter pump noise).
There are a number of possible...
RE: Re: RE: lds 427-2 runs on silicone but not diesel
Personally, I would hesitate before buying a truck from somebody who thinks it's a good idea to spray silicone spray into an engine's air intake. Maybe he also thinks that nonfat milk is a good crankcase oil additive.
